Yesterday, we saw a bunch of announcements and reveals courtesy of Microsoft's X018 event, including new titles being added to the Xbox Game Pass and a short but sweet Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer confirming the returning Winnie the Pooh world. But for a brief moment, fans of Capcom's upcoming hack-and-slash sequel, Devil May Cry 5, were treated to some new footage showing off the game's practice mode, dubbed The Void.

The series is famous for its sense of style and encouraging players to pull of various techniques in order to do well in combat. The cooler the player looks, the better their final score. Devil May Cry 5 looks no different but, for the first time in the series, it will feature a mode specifically designed to help both newcomers get used to the game and longtime veterans practice their best combos. Footage of it can be seen in the video below, where The Void seems to function very similarly to training modes in fighting games. The player can not only select what type of enemy they wish to fight against, but they can select how the enemy acts and even turn enemy damage off so they can practice a combo without worrying about accidentally killing the enemy.

Game director Hideaki Itsuno, who has worked on every game in the franchise (including the 2013 pseudo-reboot) since Devil May Cry 2, also showed off some of the new Devil Breakers fans can look forward to if they purchase the game's deluxe edition, such as the Sweet Surrender - the only Devil Breaker that has the ability to heal - and the Mega Buster, a reference to Capcom's blue bomber Mega Man. Equipping this also seems to change Nero's animations slightly, as his dodge move resembles Mega Man's sliding ability. Itsuno even says that including this reference was obvious considering Nero can now change his arms just like Mega Man.

Unfortunately, very little else was revealed about the game. There's still no word on when we'll get to see new character V in action or the supposed multiplayer and co-op features that were suggested by store listings.

Devil May Cry 5 will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 8th, 2019.
