Most of the unlockable content in Devil May Cry 5 revolves around unlocking new abilities for the three playable characters or upgrading their health and Devil Trigger meters. However, there are five alternate costumes Devil May Cry 5 players can unlock as well, on top of any pre-order bonus costumes they may have.

First, to check what costumes have already been unlocked and to equip them, players need to head to Nico's shop in the mission select screen (changing costumes mid-mission at Nico's shop is not an option). This will allow players to swap the costume for whichever character they're playing as in that particular mission. Non-playable characters like Lady and Trish also have alternate costumes, but those are equipped in the Options menu instead. Like the alternate costumes for the playable characters, players can only equip these costumes when not in the middle of a mission.

There are three different outfits players can unlock that actually have an impact on gameplay. Those are the Super Dante, Super Nero, and Super V costumes, and they all grant the player infinite Devil Trigger. The downside to these costumes is that they will slice the player's overall rating at the end of a mission by a whopping 80%, but they are still fun to use and can be effective when attempting to search for collectibles and the like. To unlock the Super Dante, Super Nero, and Super V costumes, players have to beat the game on the Dante Must Die difficulty.

Dante Must Die is unlocked after beating the game on Son of Sparda mode. However, Son of Sparda difficulty isn't available right off the bat either, and can only be unlocked after finishing the game on Devil Hunter mode. So players are going to have beat the main story in Devil May Cry 5 a minimum of three times to unlock the costumes.

As for the other two unlockable costumes in Devil May Cry 5, they simply change the color scheme of certain characters and offer no gameplay benefits. Please note that one of the unlockable costumes is for a character whose inclusion in the game could be considered a spoiler, so please proceed with caution.

Along with the "Super" costumes, Devil May Cry 5 players can also unlock EX Color costumes for both V and Dante's brother Vergil. To unlock Vergil's EX Color costume, players will need to beat the game on Heaven or Hell difficulty, which is unlocked after finishing up Dante Must Die mode. There is some debate as to how to unlock V's EX Color costume, but right now the general consensus is that it unlocks after players beat 25 missions. This hasn't been confirmed or denied yet, and we will update this article if it turns out to be inaccurate.

Here are all five costumes players can unlock in Devil May Cry 5 and how to unlock them:

  • EX Color V (beat 25 missions)
  • EX Color Vergil (beat Heaven or Hell mode)
  • Super Dante (beat Dante Must Die mode)
  • Super Nero (beat Dante Must Die mode)
  • Super V (beat Dante Must Die mode)

In the future, it's possible that Capcom will add even more alternate costumes to Devil May Cry 5 as DLC. However, Capcom hasn't said that it has any costume DLC planned for the extreme action game, and in fact, only has April's free Bloody Palace update in the works at the time of this writing.

Bloody Palace itself may feature more alternate costumes to unlock as rewards, but that's just speculation at this time. Capcom has yet to share many details about Bloody Palace, but Devil May Cry 5 fans should be able to look forward to more information on the game mode in the coming weeks.

Devil May Cry 5 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
