Today, Capcom revealed during a gamescom edition of the Inside Xbox live stream that Devil May Cry 5's release date has finally been confirmed, and the game is scheduled to launch on March 8, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A new trailer was also released by the publisher and developer that showcases some of Nero’s moves, along with a few seconds of series protagonist Dante on a motorcycle.

Initially announced during Microsoft’s E3 press conference a couple of months ago, Devil May Cry 5 will be a direct sequel to the events that transpired in Devil May Cry 4, which was released back in 2008. The upcoming game will feature three playable characters: Nero, Dante, and a mysterious protagonist whose identity is still unknown.

In Devil May Cry 5's E3 2018 trailer, fans were given a preview of Nero’s new demon-powered arm. In the previous game, Nero had a different arm called Demon Bringers, but in the trailer for DMC 5, Nero is shown trading in the Demon Bringers for a new robotic arm called Devil Breakers. In the recent Inside Xbox live stream, Capcom briefly discussed Nero’s new Devil Breakers, saying that there will be eight in total in the game, which will allow him to perform a vast array of combos in battle.

Since the announcement at E3, some fans wondered why Capcom decided to skip a follow up of 2013’s DmC: Devil May Cry. The publisher explained that pursuing DMC 5 doesn't mean Capcom's snubbing the sequel from Ninja Theory. Matt Walker, a producer at Capcom, said that while the studio loved DmC, the company wanted to honor what majority of fans have been asking for, which is a continuation of DMC 4’s storyline.

Last month, Capcom confirmed that DMC 5 will use the RE Engine, which was previously developed for Resident Evil 7, and is currently used in the development of the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2. The use of the RE Engine for DMC 5 should allow Capcom to bring photorealistic visuals while running at a steady 60 FPS.

It is exciting to know what else Capcom has in store for DMC 5, especially now that a release date has been revealed. It has been 10 years since DMC 4 was released, so hopefully DMC 5 will be an epic game that serves as a true sequel to its predecessor.

Devil May Cry 5 is scheduled to release on March 8, 2019, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
