When Devil May Cry 5 was officially unveiled with a trailer and a spring 2019 release date during Microsoft's Xbox E3 2018 press conference, it's safe to say that plenty of fans were elated to learn that the long-awaited next entry is now on the way. Of course, one of the most exciting parts of the aforementioned trailer involved the confirmation that Dante would be returning in the fifth installment, with Capcom having stated that it may give the frequent protagonist of the series a new look at some point in the upcoming sequel.

This much was revealed by Capcom's producer Matt Walker, who touched on the fact that Dante's long hair in Devil May Cry 5 is a contentious point among fans, as many are arguing that not only is it unhelpful while strands fly into his face as he drives a motorcycle, but also that it doesn't suit the character. Interestingly enough, Walker agrees with the criticism to a certain extent, but promises that what the studio chooses to do with Dante's locks will be the right choice in the long run.

“Unfortunately we can’t reveal too much about Dante yet, but I’m confident that you’ll be happy with how he turns out in DMC5. His hair may be impractical for motorcycle riding in that particular scene, but he might just wise up and do something to make that motorcycle riding more manageable.”

For those unaware, this isn't the first instance of Capcom switching Dante's look from the style he portrayed in the original game in the action-adventure franchise, as he was given a completely different hairdo in the 2013 reboot, DmC: Devil May Cry. Of course, as many will likely recall, loads of fans were confused and even upset by the choice. Despite this minor quibble, the game as a whole went on to receive solid reviews.

Taking all of this into account, it will be interesting to see if Capcom plans to have Dante's look evolve somewhat during the course of Devil May Cry 5, and just how fans will react to such a change in design. However the publisher and developer decide to render his style in the latest entry, though, it's safe to say that the sequel will at least have top-notch graphics since it runs on the RE Engine.

Devil May Cry 5 is currently scheduled to release at some point in spring 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
