When Devil May Cry 5 was released by Capcom last month, a censored scene caused confusion among PS4 players in the west. The confusion was brought about after players discovered that the same scene was not censored in worldwide versions of the game on other platforms, including the PlayStation 4 in Japan.

While Capcom did not release an official statement regarding the censorship, the game's latest update has now removed the lens flare that covered the nude scene in Devil May Cry 5 for the PS4 in the United States. The game's PS4 version in Europe however, remained censored following the game's latest update.

Aside from the latest changes brought about by patch 1.07, Capcom did not specify the removal of the censorship in the US version of the game, nor did it explain why it was taken out now, or why the Europe version did not receive the same treatment. Given Capcom and Sony's silence on the issue, fans have speculated that the decision to cover the nudity in the game in some territories were in response to Sony's new policy that aims to tone down sexual content on the PS4.

Although Devil May Cry 5 was received with mostly positive reviews from both critics and players, the censorship is not the only controversy the game has found itself in. A couple of weeks ago, one of the game's voice actors was forced to remove controversial videos from his YouTube channel. The videos in question featured "comedy skits" that were deemed by some to be both racist and homophobic. Voice actor Joey Camen, who played Morrison in the game, was quick to remove the videos concerned and issued an apology to the people he has offended.

Other than the removal of the lens flare that covered the nudity in Devil May Cry 5, the latest update also introduced the game's first DLC called Bloody Palace. The latest expansion was released yesterday for free and puts players in a circular arena where they face hordes of enemies. Bloody Palace also gives players the option to play as either Dante, Nero, or V, and puts their skills and proficiency of Devil May Cry 5's combat system to the test.

Devil May Cry 5 is available now for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
