Eidos Montreal and Square Enix officially reveal the details and release date for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s first installment of downloadable content.
Even though Deus Ex: Mankind Divided just recently launched a couple of weeks ago to positive reviews, fans won’t have to wait much longer in order to obtain the stealth-oriented action-RPG’s first expansion. According to developer Eidos Montreal and Square Enix, the game’s first piece of story-based content is called “System Rift,” and it is set to launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms on September 23, 2016.
Apparently, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s System Rift DLC will not only bring about new gameplay, but also players will see the return of Frank Pritchard, Sarif Industries’ head of cyber-security. Fans will more than likely recall that the character was last seen in the franchise’s previous entry of Human Revolution.
A press release for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s System Rift expansion describes that the game’s protagonist Adam Jensen will “assist [Pritchard] in hunting down information on the mysterious Santeau Group,” and “may also be able to uncover hints as to who the Illuminati really are.” In order to receive the necessary details for the situation, however, Jensen and Pritchard will be putting themselves in an extremely dangerous situation by targeting “one of the most secure data banks ever created–the Palisade Blade.”
Those who have already purchased Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s Season Pass won’t have to worry about being charged extra when System Rift drops later this month, as it will be included with the game at no additional cost. However, fans who wish to purchase the DLC upon the release as a standalone item will need to pay $12 on either Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network, or other online retailers. Even more information about System Rift will be revealed during Mankind Divided‘s panel at PAX tomorrow at 3:00 PM PST.
Beyond System Rift, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided fans should expect even more expansion materials in the future. According to developers, the second story DLC to eventually be included in the game’s Season Pass is called “A Criminal Past” and it will be available in early 2017. Unfortunately, though, no further details have been provided thus far as to what the second add-on will be about.
While it’s safe to presume that many Deus Ex: Mankind Divided players are excited about the impending availability of the System Rift DLC, fans not playing on PS4 or Xbox One might be hesitant to download it upon launch due to the PC problems the base game encountered upon release. Nevertheless, even if the first piece of DLC for Mankind Divided does go on to have issues on the platform, the turnaround time for developers to provide fixes ought to be relatively short, as the game’s first patch came out almost immediately after bugs, glitches, and crashes were reported.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and its first DLC known as System Rift is set to release on September 23, 2016 for the aforementioned platforms.
