When one talks about the immersive sim genre, it would be close to impossible to not mention the masterpiece that is Deus Ex. The first game in this series was a groundbreaking title that paved the way for this genre to finally shine on its own merit, carving its niche and attracting a community that has been loyal to these forms of games ever since. The Deus Ex series has been graced with some truly brilliant games, and the latest entry in the series is no exception to this golden rule.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided might've turned the wrong heads due to its controversial allegories, but there's no denying the fact that the game itself is pretty solid and does justice to the Deus Ex name. Roaming around the ever-evolving city of Prague is never dull, and the plot does a great job of putting forth a great mystery that kept fans on the edges of their seats.

These fans have done their best to dissect everything related to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, but they've definitely missed the following things about the game that have remained hidden for quite some time.

10 Tibor Sokol Appears In The Epilogue Regardless Of Whether He's Dead Or Alive

Tibor Sokol from Deus Ex

One of the characters whose fate rests in the hands of Adam Jensen is Tibor Sokol, one of the members of the Augmented Rights Coalition. However, perhaps due to the rushed nature of the game's development, the epilogue shows Tibor Sokol regardless of whether or not the player let him live in the game.

9 Samizdat's Articles Appear Regardless Of Whether Jensen Apprehends Them Or Not

Samizdat in Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Samizdat is a rather on-the-nose underground publishing house in the game that publishes satirical articles criticizing the happenings of the world. This organization can be investigated by Adam Jensen, who can choose to dismantle the publishing house if need be.

However, this doesn't matter, since Samizdat's articles appear regardless of whether Jensen shut down their office or not.

8 Samizdat Founded The Organization Silhouette, Which Aids JC Denton In The First Deus Ex

One cool thing to note about Samizdat is the ties it shares with the very first game in the series.

In the epilogue, there's a newsreel that shows that the members of Samizdat flee to Paris after the chaos in Prague, following which they decided to create the organization known as Silhouette. Keen-eyed players will know this to be the same organization that aids JC Denton in the first Deus Ex game.

7 A Figurine Of Garret From Thief Can Be Seen In The Game

The immersive sim community is a tight-knit one, with developers sticking together and paying homage to various notable works in the genre that helped the genre evolve. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is no exception to this rule, with a figurine of Garret — from the Thief series — appearing in the System Rift DLC.

One of the more unexpected references in the game comes in the A Criminal Past DLC when Adam Jensen managed to weed a confession out of Hector Guerrero. The achievement unlocked is called "Objection!" — accompanied by a fitting picture of Jensen in a suit doing the iconic finger point from the Ace Attorney series.

5 David Sarif's Voice Actor Was Changed Due To A Falling Out

David Sarif and Adam Jensen in Deus Ex

David Sarif is a mainstay in both the Deus Ex prequels, but what most people might not have noticed is that his voice actor was changed in the second game. The original voice actor for this character, Stephen Shellen, had a falling out with Eidos Montreal. This led to him being replaced by Rick Miller, who did a mighty fine job considering that most people never noticed this change of voice.

4 The "Future-Past Antiky" Shop Is Chock-Full Of References

The Companion Cube from Portal

One of the coolest shops in the game, "Future-Past Antiky" is a gold mine of easter eggs in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. For starters, several video game boxes of old Eidos games like Tomb Raider, Hitman, and even Soul Reaver can be seen in the shop's basement. Another thing of note in the basement is a Companion Cube from the popular Portal series, which is quite a treat to witness firsthand.

3 Tech Noir From The Terminator Makes An Appearance In The Game

Deus Ex is full to the brim with references to various sci-fi works, and it was only a given that The Terminator would be subject to this as well.

Tech Noir is a famous nightclub from The Terminator series, and this name comes up in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided as well. Although this time, the subject of this name is significantly tamer — it's a technology shop.

2 The Shop "Sobchak Security" Is A Reference To The Big Lebowski

Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski

It seems that the people over at Eidos Montreal have some good taste in movies, given the fact that one of their references in the game comes from The Big Lebowski, one of the most legendary movies of all time. Near the Bolzano Monument in Prague, players will notice a shop with the name "Sobchak Security," which is a pretty obvious reference to the character Walter Sobchak from the movie.

1 Square Enix Was A Major Thorn In Eidos Montreal's Side

There were several aspects of Mankind Divided that were criticized by a number of fans and critics alike. The convoluted pre-order system, the needless microtransactions, and the segmented story beats are just a few of the many things that were rightfully lambasted for how greedy and unnecessary they felt.

According to some reports, it turns out that Square Enix was actually forcing Eidos at the last second to integrate all these elements, which could have definitely impacted the overall quality of the game to a certain extent.
