Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield were just announced just a few days ago, revealing a new generation of starter Pokemon that has fans excited for the future. Fans are clearly divided when it comes to picking out a favorite, though at last check the water-type Sobble had a narrow lead at 38%, with the fire-type Scorbunny a sole percentage point behind. There's already plenty of Sobble fan art popping up from Pokemon fans around the globe, but one addition to the pile is certainly worth a sole highlight.

The art is a depiction of what a realistic Sobble might look like, and it was drawn by none other than RJ Palmer. He's an artist who previously went viral by drawing realistic renditions of Pokemon, an act that he's been doing for upwards of six years now. His talented (and sometimes horrifying) drawings eventually got him a job working with the production crew of Detective Pikachu, where he provided realistic designs for the live-action movie.

Given that his work with Detective Pikachu primarily took place in 2016-2017, it's unlikely that any of the new generation Pokemon will make an appearance in the upcoming flick. That didn't stop RJ Palmer from taking a crack at what Sobble might look like, though, and the resulting lizard has split the crowd: half seem to think Sobble is cute, and the other half are giving the lizard a cold-blooded reception.

RJ Palmer hasn't stated if he'll create any art based on Scorbunny or Grookey, so for now it looks like the water-type is the only one to get a photorealistic makeover. RJ Palmer is kept pretty busy as a concept artist at Ubisoft San Francisco, so his time is understandably valuable. That being said, the humble artist even apologized to fans for coming in late with a Sobble drawing, even though it was only a few days after Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield were announced in the first place.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will launch later this year for the Nintendo Switch.
