Although Destruction AllStars was just released this month, it was recently announced that its price will be almost four times lower than what it was launched for. The game was announced for PS5 and was offered for free as part of the PlayStation Plus program during the first two months of its release. Originally, Destruction AllStars was going to be sold for $70 dollars, but apparently, it will be sold for $50 dollars less meaning it will only cost $20 starting in April.

The game was developed by Lucid Games and it was announced for the first time in June 2020. Then, in October 2020, it was announced that Destruction AllStars's release would be delayed to February 2021 in order to include it in the PlayStation Plus service. The team in charge of the game's design included Karl Jones and Colin Berry who were behind the Wipeout series.

The reason why Destruction AllStars seemed so interesting was that it aims to be an original car-based derby ideal for multiplayer. Even though the game's concept is good, it was criticized upon release for not offering much content. The game has a score of 63 on Metacritic at the moment meaning that, during its release months, Destruction AllStars has received mixed reviews.

Additionally, many users experienced crashes that had to be fixed with patches. Just last week, Lucid Games released a patch to avoid the game from crashing during matchmaking and to add a server for Australia, among other issues. Furthermore, Destruction AllStars was criticized for the intrusive monetization system which prompts users to spend a considerable amount of money to unlock some of the basic content.

Even though Destruction AllStars has experienced a tough debut, Lucid Games has promised to update the content soon to include new skins, featured playlists, single-player challenges, and double XP weekends. Together with the considerable price decrease, Destruction AllStars might be able to compensate for the negative reviews it has received during its first month.

According to Lucid Games, the reason for the huge price decrease is that they want to ensure more players will join to "ensure the mayhem will continue." Even though it was not said explicitly, it is likely that the price decrease is a maneuver to recover from the underwhelming reviews Destruction AllStars has received. In any case, $20 is a more understandable price for a game in the AAA game space that has historically never surpassed the $59.99 price.

Destruction AllStars is available now as a PS5 exclusive.
