Destroy All Humans! released today, and many are wondering if it maintains the classic run-and-gun appeal and if it has more content than the 2005 classic. Before fully diving into the remake, fans are also wondering how long the game takes to beat.

Before the Destroy All Humans! release, developers were confident the game would be much longer than the original. Black Forest Games creative director Onurhan Karaagacli said, "It should be at least 30 or 40 [hours], but I wouldn’t quote me on that quite yet. It’s not a short game at all, though. We’re hoping to add a lot of replayability with the open world component."

A large part of the playability is based on the open-world concept and the belief that many players would want to explore on their own. However, if players choose to play right through the story missions without completing any side objectives, the game time is around 8-10 hours.

Most players will not rush through story missions, as there is a good amount of side missions and areas to freely explore. Players may find themselves randomly destroying buildings and tormenting humans for hours before moving on to any real objectives. With Crypto's saucer weapons and psychokinesis abilities, players can spend plenty of time trying out the many ways to cause destruction. However, the real hit to the limited playtime is the lack of depth to the story missions and repetitive objectives.

The Destroy All Humans! story is remade almost exactly as the original, with the only new content being a short Area-51 themed mission. Many of the missions do have optional objectives that reward players with skins and concept art, plus there are challenges in the map that range from saucer races to wreaking destruction in a location. Much of the game's playability is not based on the story, but the open-world challenges and the freedom to destroy everything.

The 8-10 hour playtime is not what most players will experience. With all of the side missions and challenges throughout the game, players will get at least 15 hours of playtime. If random destruction of humanity is your thing, many more hours can be spent zapping humans and blasting buildings. Between walking around as Crypto or hopping in his saucer, players have options on how to explore and destroy. Do not expect too much new content with the Destroy All Humans! remake, but the improved graphics make the game entertaining for hours.

Destroy All Humans! is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
