Competitive multiplayer game and Destroy All Humans spinoff Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage is now free to play on PC and Xbox, but those playing on PlayStation will have to spend $0.02 if they want to check it out. Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage launched earlier this year, mere months before Destroy All Humans 2: Re-Probed.

2022 has been a big year for the Destroy All Humans franchise. Destroy All Humans 2: Re-Probed followed in the footsteps of the Destroy All Humans remake from a couple of years ago, retaining the gameplay of the original game while greatly improving the graphics. Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage came out as a sort of companion to Destroy All Humans 2: Re-Probed, given away for free to those that pre-ordered the new game while otherwise costing $9.99 for everyone else.

Multiplayer-focused games may struggle to amass a sizable audience if they aren't free-to-play, and that seems to be the case with Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage, so one has to imagine that a low player count played a role in the decision to switch to a free-to-play model. Those on PC and Xbox can start playing Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage for free now, while those on PS4 have to pay $0.02. No reason has been given as to why Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage costs $0.02 on PS4 but is free everywhere else, but it likely has something to do with Sony's PlayStation Store rules.

While $0.02 seems like an inconsequential amount of money, it may still be enough to convince PS4 gamers not to bother with trying Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage, especially if they are upset about PC and Xbox gamers getting to play completely free of charge. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see if Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage has a player count surge or not in its transition to a free-to-play game.

Unfortunately, Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage has not been well-received by the community. At the time of this writing, Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage on Steam has Mostly Negative reviews from the audience. Complaints have been aimed at the controls and that the game is "dead," with players finding it difficult to get into multiplayer matches. That problem should be fixed somewhat by going free-to-play, at least.

With the first two Destroy All Humans games remade and Clone Carnage now free-to-play, one has to wonder what THQ Nordic has in store for the franchise next. Some may be holding out hope for a brand-new Destroy All Humans game to hit the market, but nothing has been announced at the time of this writing.

Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
