Only a few days remain until Destiny 2 starts its next evolution into Year 3. While the core game is going free to play with Destiny 2 New Light, Year 3 introduces the Shadowkeep expansion as well as the Season of the Undying. Bungie has been very active in detailing all of the numerous changes that are coming and in its latest blog post this week, players can read through what looks like the beginning phases of what will be the official patch notes.

Part of the new information surrounds the weekend exotics merchant Xur. As expected, the controversial merchant is getting an update once Shadowkeep arrives, expanding his inventory even futher. While players have already gotten a small taste these past couple of months, Bungie has confirmed that Year 3 will expand his inventory pool and the weekly Fated Engram to include world-drop Exotics from Year 2. This should help players continue to fill out their exotic collection for any missing loot from the past year.

Until then, Xur has returned to Destiny 2 in a new location and with an updated inventory of exotic gear for the next few days. Here's where players can find Xur as well as a review of what he's currently selling for the weekend of September 27, 2019.

Where is Xur?

For the final weekend of Year 2, players should head over to Io to find Xur in his familiar cave.

Head to the Giant's Scar and immediately head through the building into the area with the large drill in the center. Head left through the gate and follow the edges of the zone to the top left corner of the map where Xur is hiding in a cave.

Class Armor

The final pre-Shadowkeep weekend is here and players may want to be extra cautious with their precious resources. With new systems coming into play such as the anticipated Armor 2.0, players should think twice before spending shards on Xur gear this weekend. Here are the gear he's selling and don't forget that the Fated Engram is still available to provide something else including a chance to unlock an exotic from the Forsaken expansion.

Here are Xur's three gear pieces this weekend:

Nezarec's Sin - Warlock helm

It's been quite a while since Xur has had Nezarec's Sin in stock. It's intrinsic perk is known as Abyssal Extractors, a void specific ability that should make Voidwalker Warlocks very happy. Essentially, any void damage kills increase ability energy recharge rate.

Naturally, this item pairs well not only with Voidwalkers, but many strong weapons currently int he game like the Hammerhead machine gun, Le Monarque Bow, and Recluse submachine gun. It's currently unknown how the upcoming changes will affect these weapons, but either way, this is still a very useful and popular Warlock exotic.

Random Gear Rolls:

  • Restorative OR Mobility
  • Submachine Gun Targeting, Energy Weapon Targeting, Precision Weapon Targeting
  • Rocket Launcher Reserves OR Sniper Rifle Reserves

Lucky Pants - Hunter leg armor

This week, Hunters have access to the hand cannon focused Lucky Pants armor. Its intrinsic perk Illegally Modded Holster, loads one round into the chamber of stowed hand cannons after a precision hit. In addition, hand cannons ready faster and have a bonus to accuracy after switching to them.

Considering how many Hand Cannons have been added to the game over the past year like Lumina or The Last Word, this exotic gear is indeed viable. Recent hands-on impressions of Shadowkeep have also highlighted a new exotic hand cannon called Eriana's Vow, which can be unlocked as part of the Season of the Undying battle pass. For players who use or enjoy Hand Cannons, these are a solid pickup this week.

Random Gear Rolls:

  • Resilience OR Mobility
  • Perpetuation, Traction, Oversize Weapon Dexterity
  • Hand Cannon Scavenger OR Submachine Gun Scavenger

Helm of Saint-14 - Titan helm

Titans should take note that the Helm of Saint-14 is back in stock this week. Made for Defender Titans, this helm is more of a support tool thanks to its intrinsic perk. Starless Night blinds enemies that enter Ward of Dawn while also giving allies an overshield when they pass through it. For those who don't want to use the Ward of Dawn, guarding with Sentinel Shield blinds nearby enemies as well.

This may be an important item this week because Ward of Dawn aka Bubble Titans are getting a big buff when Shadowkeep launches next week. Not only is the ward getting a big health buff and orb generation, but allied players now get Weapons of Light damage buff for 15 seconds. As such, this item is likely going to be an important staple to Titan players going forward so it is a must buy this week.

Random Gear Rolls:

  • Resilience OR Restorative
  • Heavy Lifting, Hands-On, Kinetic Weapon Targeting
  • Rocket Launcher Reserves OR Shotgun Reserves

Exotic Weapon

One month later, the Vigilance Wing pulse rifle is back in stock. Its intrinsic perk called Hard Truths makes this weapon more unique from traditional pulse rifles as this weapon has a five shot burst instead of the typical three. In addition, the player using the weapon gains instant health regeneration and increased movement speed when a nearby ally is killed due to the trait Last Stand.

Pulse Rifles, for now at least, remain at the top of the Destiny 2 meta, which means that Vigilance Wing is absolutely viable. However, the game is about to receive sweeping weapon changes next week when Shadowkeep launches, so it's unknown how things are going to change until the patch is available. However, the weapon is getting a 25% damage boost in PvE so that may make the weapon a little more appealing for those who don't have it. At this point, it's a solid choice, but isn't absolutely necessary.

The perks for this weapon this weekend are:

  • Corkscrew Rifling
  • Alloy Magazine
  • Composite Stock

Here's the complete rundown of Xur's entire stock in Destiny 2 for September 27:

  • Nezarec's Sin (Warlock helm) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Lucky Pants (Hunter leg armor) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Helm of Saint-14 (Titan helm) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Vigilance Wing (Pulse rifle) - 29 Legendary Shards
  • Fated Engram - 97 Legendary Shards
  • Five of Swords Challenge Card

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
