After a full year of visiting Destiny players in the tower and offering them new and exciting exotic gear and weapons, Xur is almost ready to move into Year 2 with The Taken King. Yes, it’s with a heavy heart that we are likely saying goodbye to some of Xur’s most frequent exotic items, as many of them will not make the jump over to Year 2. But it's also the last weekend before Xur starts to reinvigorate the fan base with new items.

While some had wondered whether Xur would return for Destiny: The Taken King, those questions were soon answered once Bungie started offering firm details about the expansion. Turns out, not only will Xur still visit players every weekend once Destiny: The Taken King releases on September 15th, but also he will offer new goodies. But before Xur makes the transition to Year 2, he had one last hurrah for Year 1.

This week, Destiny players can find Xur right next to Arcite 99-40, the Crucible Quartermaster. Head directly straight after spawning into the Tower, follow the steps down and past Eris Morn (note: this is Eris' new spot for Year 2), and Xur should be to the left right after the first archway.

Xur's Exotic Selection in Destiny

For armor, Xur has a set of Guardian helmets that very in utility. The Hunter's Celestial Nighthawk is easily the most useful, as its Big Game perk can do extreme damage via a single, penetrating golden gun shot. The Titan's Helm of Inmost Light and the Warlock's Apotheosis Veil helmets are no slouches either, but they are more for defensive-minded players.

However, it is with Xur's last Year 1 Destiny exotic weapon that the Agent of the Nine has the last laugh. While Update 2.0 did make No Land Beyond a more useful sniper rifle, it's still easily one of the least popular exotic items in his entire inventory. Perhaps this is Xur's way of reminding players that, even once Taken King comes out, he's still going to be ready with lots of disappointment.

For a full rundown of Xur’s items and prices see the list below:

  • Helm of Inmost Light (Titan Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
  • Celestial Nighthawk (Hunter DLC Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
  • Apotheosis Veil (Warlock Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
  • No Land Beyond (Sniper Rifle) – 23 Strange Coins
  • Exotic Chest Engram – 23 Motes of Light

Interestingly enough, it's the items Xur is not selling this weekend that will likely have players talking. With no weapon telemetries or an exotic shard, one has to wonder how those particular consumables will change in Year 2. We know that exotic shards can be used to infuse weapons and raise their attack power, so it stands to reason Bungie didn't want to give players unfettered access to them anymore. But for the telemetries, there's no clear reason as to why they are gone. I guess we will have to wait until next weekend to find out.

What do you hope Xur sells on the first weekend of Destiny: The Taken King? Is there any Year 1 item you hoped to get from Xur but never did?
