Bungie's idea of turning Destiny 2 into an ever evolving world took its first step this week through the Vex Offensive seasonal mode. Players visiting Ikora in the Tower may have noticed that the area behind her now has scaffolding, cranes, and NPC's involved in some sort of construction. While this is likely an event that will span the entire season, leading to a final battle with the Vex Mind, it's a reminder that the Tower and game as a whole are continuing to evolve over time.

Unfortunately for some fans, the evolving world means a more nuanced and slip drip of content to last throughout the season. There's been a bit of discontent from the community over the Shadowkeep campaign which left many feeling like it was overly short and didn't resolve anything in particular. It's likely that the narrative thread will continue to be woven throughout this season and possibly in future seasons, keeping with Bungie's evolving world mantra.

Until then, the exotic merchant Xur has returned for a limited time inside of Destiny 2. It's worth noting that Xur works a little differently this season with his gear now utilizing the Armor 2.0 system, removing the randomized perks. In addition, his Fated Engram has an expanded loot pool to pull from, so it's worth spending the shards if his inventory isn't appealing. Here's where players can find Xur as well as a review of what he's currently selling for the weekend of October 11, 2019.

Where is Xur?

For a second straight weekend, Xur isn't on the Moon. Instead, players should head to the Tower Hanger to find Xur hanging out near Dead Orbit. From the default landing zone, immediately head to the left and following the path down into the Hangar.

After entering the hangar, head left again past Arach Jalaal and his Dead Orbit crew and up a metal stair case. Xur is standing on a metal platform at the back of this room overlooking the mountain ranges below.

Class Armor

This weekend, Xur has brought with him more Armor 2.0 exotics. Unfortunately, none of them are all that new, though with all of the changes and new armor system in place, perhaps they're a little more desirable than before.

Once again, for those unhappy with his offerings today, the Fated Engram now features world-drop Exotics from Year 2. This should help guardians to continue filling out their exotic collections. Here are Xur's three gear pieces this weekend:

The Stag - Warlock helm

It's been quite a while since Warlocks have seen this helm in stock with Xur. Essentially letting the user wear a skeletal stag head, this item is more of a support tool, making it a valuable addition when in a Fireteam.

Dearly Departed is the intrinsic perk that grants Rift energy when the wearer is critically wounded. In addition it drops a healing rift for the rest of the team when the wearer dies. For solo play, this isn't immensely useful as the main trait occurs after death. It's situational, though strong in team based modes. Ultimately, there are much better Warlock exotics to use ahead of this one.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +6
  • Resilience +6
  • Recovery +14
  • Discipline +6
  • Intellect +10
  • Strength +5

Mechaneer's Tricksleeves - Hunter gauntlets

The little seen Mechaneer's Tricksleeves are a very specific exotic, geared only for Guardians who favor Sidearms. Which isn't likely many people. Spring-Loaded Mounting boosts Sidearms efficiency especially when the user is wounded.

In terms of the current meta post-Shadowkeep launch, Sidearms are nowhere near the top as they're outclassed by other weapon types including hand cannons and pulse rifles. These exotics should only be purchased by those who actively enjoy using sidearms only. For everyone else, they can be skipped.

Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +4
  • Resilience +6
  • Recovery +16
  • Discipline +6
  • Intellect +6
  • Strength +10

Ashen Wake - Titan gauntlets

Sunbreaker Titans can once again pick up the Ashen Wake gauntlets as Xur is selling them once more. Bring the Heat makes all thrown fusion grenades explode on impact and gives the Titan increased throw speed.

As fun as that sounds, these are at best a situational exotic where each player's mileage will vary. It's a great exotic for taking down major enemies quickly and is capable of taking a players health down enough to be one shot in PvP. For fans of fusion grenades, this is easy to recommend but for everyone else, hold on to the legendary shards and skip them.

Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +6
  • Resilience +8
  • Recovery +10
  • Discipline +12
  • Intellect +6
  • Strength +6

Exotic Weapon

The unique scout rifle Jade Rabbit is in stock, fitting considering the sudden appearance of Jade Rabbit figurines on the Moon. This remains more of a high skill weapon in order to get the most out of it. The Fate of All Fools is the weapon’s intrinsic perk, giving bonus damage to players that can land a precision shot after chaining multiple body shots on an enemy. This also returns ammo to the magazine as well.

While this would have been an easy weapon to overlook, the Shadowkeep update tweaked Scout Rifles, making them more viable in all areas of the game. Even though The Jade Rabbit has a slower rate of fire, the weapons has been spotted more frequently in the Crucible, largely to help obtain the new pinnacle Crucible weapon known as Randy's Throwing Knife. At the end of the day, this weapon may not suit everyone, but it's worth a look for those who can master the art of the headshot.

The perks for this weapon this weekend are:

  • Polygonal Rifling
  • Armor-Piercing Rounds

Here's the complete rundown of Xur's entire stock in Destiny 2 for October 11:

  • The Stag (Warlock helm) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Mechaneer's Tricksleeves (Hunter gauntlets) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Ashen Wake (Titan gauntlets) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Jade Rabbit (Scout Rifle) - 29 Legendary Shards
  • Fated Engram - 97 Legendary Shards
  • Five of Swords Challenge Card

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
