Xur has returned to the tower this week bearing exotic gifts, and good ones at that. But, the items that most Destiny players were hoping for are still nowhere to be found.
This week, Xur can be found in the very back of the hangar – commonly referred to as the “nightclub.” It may seem like a rather long trek, but just keep going and eventually Xur will reveal himself in the very back, dimly lit corner.
Xur’s Exotic Selection
However, once players finally get to Xur they will find disappointment is the most bountiful item on his menu. With no heavy ammo synthesis for the fifth week in a row, it’s as if Xur, and in turn Bungie, is trolling the Destiny player base. They say that the heavy ammo synthesis is coming, but rather than offer a temporary solution players are forced to either use the heavy ammo glitch or farm glimmer for synthesis.
It’s a similarly disappointing offering when it comes to armor, although if there are any Warlocks who don’t have the Light Beyond Nemesis helmet we recommend picking it up. Its “replenish health when picking up orbs” ability is helpful during Crota’s End hard mode; that is, for players who don’t already have a way to regenerate health.
The good news is that Xur has the Ice Breaker yet again, so any who missed it a few weeks ago have another shot at the all-important sniper rifle. Yes, most players have their own golden goose (i.e. Gjallarhorn, Hawkmoon, Vex Mythoclast), but we’d argue that Ice Breaker is an essential weapon for every Destiny player’s arsenal.
For a full rundown of Xur’s items and prices see the list below:
- Helm of Inmost Light (Titan Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
- Crest of Alpha Lupi (Hunter Chest Armor) – 13 Strange Coins
- Light Beyond Nemsis (Warlock Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
- Ice Breaker (Sniper Rifle) – 17 Strange Coins
- Exotic Shard – 7 Strange Coins
For exotic upgrades, it’s a similar story of repeat offerings. Realistically, the only item worth getting outside of the Gjallarhorn upgrade (if you haven’t already) is the Apotheosis Veil upgrade. This helmet is even more useful during Crota’s End because it regenerates health any time players pick up an orb and when they activate their super. More options mean less chance of dying and having to start the encounter all over again.

The big story with Xur continues to be his lack of heavy ammo synthesis and it will likely continue to be that way until Bungie fixes the bug. They’ve said that a fix should hit before the end of the month, but it would nice for them to step in, tweak Xur’s RNG, and offer synthesis. Maybe next week?
What do you hope Xur sells next week? Do you think he will ever sell heavy ammo again?
