Earlier this week, Bungie gave Destiny players their first tour of The Reef, the new social space that launches alongside the House of Wolves DLC. While navigating the reef, the developers gave fans quick looks at some of the new gear that will be available with the DLC, and they also revealed how weapon upgrades will work post-update. They also teased some potential new hiding spots for Xur once the House of Wolves releases on May 19th, meaning players will have two HUB areas to check every Friday morning.
For now, though, it’s the Tower or bust for Xur, who has once again graced us with his presence. Not that he wasn’t going to show up, but it’s fun to think that very soon we might be frantically searching for Xur instead of running right to one of his regular spots. On top of that, there’s the exciting possibility that Xur might soon offer completely new exotics in his inventory, provided Bungie tabs those new armor and weapon items for the Agent of the Nine. Alas, we’re getting ahead of ourselves…
This week Destiny players can find Xur next to the Crucible Quartermasters in the hallway leading to the Vanguard banquet table. Simply head forward right after spawning into the Tower and walk forward down the stairs; Xur should be on the left hand side.
Xur’s Exotic Selection
On the exotic armor front, Xur has the MK. 44 Stand Asides, which is a solid exotic boot option for Titans who enjoy the Crucible. The increased duration of Shoulder Charge basically turns players into a sprinting bull just waiting to insta-kill a target. For Hunters, he has the Crest of Alpha Lupi – a useful chest piece for situations that require extra orbs. And for Warlocks he has the Skull of Dire Ahamkara.
Xur’s exotic weapon this week is the MIDA Multi-Tool, an accurate and deadly scout rifle that many use specifically for its movement abilities. Because the MIDA Multi-Tool boosts move speed, many players use the exotic weapon to run through the Abyss section of Crota’s End. It’s pretty useful in combating the ‘Weight of Darkness’ buff and can help players outrun the Thralls.
For a full rundown of Xur’s items and prices see the list below:
- MK. 44 Stand Asides (Titan DLC Boots) – 13 Strange Coins
- Crest of Alpha Lupi (Hunter Chest Piece) – 13 Strange Coins
- Skull of Dire Ahamkara (Warlock Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
- MIDA Multi-Tool (Scout Rifle) – 23 Strange Coins
- Exotic Shard – 7 Strange Coins
- Exotic Chest Engram – 23 Motes of Light
We’ve said it before, but any Hunters who are daring to tackle Crota’s End on Hard are strongly encouraged to pick up the Mask of the Third Man. It’s regeneration ability while picking up orbs is a literal life saver.
- Achylophage Symbiote
- Mask of the Third Man
- Helm of Saint-14
- Helm of Inmost Light
- Light Beyond Nemesis
- Heart of Praxic Fire
- Suros Regime
- MIDA Multi-Tool
- Universal Remote
- Patience and Time
Along with talk of the new weapon upgrade options included in the next Destiny update, Bungie also confirmed that Xur will no longer be necessary when it comes to exotic upgrades. Moving forward, players will simply upgrade an exotic to the new 365 attack power level right from their inventory.
On the one hand, that’s a good thing because it cuts out the need to wait for Friday morning to upgrade exotics, but it also makes the Agent of the Nine less important. Now, he’s purely an exotic vendor.
Hopefully players stocked up on their Strange Coins in preparation for Xur’s appearance this week. If not, we hope they at least have access to reasonable Wi-Fi so they don’t have to grind for coins using a taco shop’s Internet.
