A few months after we started covering Xur at Game Rant, there was a growing sense of fatigue among the Destiny community. While many enjoyed running through the Tower in search of the Agent of the Nine, others felt his wares were being crueler – especially after he continually sold underpowered exotic weapons like the No Land Beyond.

But despite Xur’s disappointing offerings, there remained a steadfast segment of the Destiny community that believed he might come through. Sometimes Xur even did answer players' prayers, like last week when he showed up with the Bones of Eao boots for Hunters. However, last week’s wish-granting pales in comparison to Xur’s exotic selection this week. Yes, there’s no doubt that this will go down as the biggest weekend in Destiny history.

While some can already guess what we are alluding to, let’s get through the basics first. This week, Destiny players can find Xur in Tower South, in the area commonly referred to as the lounge. All one needs to do is head right after spawning in, follow the path through the hangar and all the way until you can’t walk anymore. Xur should be tucked off in the corner on the left.

Xur's Exotic Selection

For armor, Xur has three decent helmets: An Insurmountable Skullfort for Titans, the Achlyophage Symbiote for Hunters, and the Light Beyond Nemesis for Warlocks. The Light Beyond Nemesis is easily the most useful of the three helmets, both for its quick revive properties and its health replenishment on orb pickup. If you’re a Trials of Osiris player, we definitely recommend picking it up.

But truly this weekend will go down in history as the weekend of Gjallarhorn. Yes, for only the second time ever, Xur has the Gjallarhorn for sale, and this is not a joke. While some had thought that Xur might not ever sell the Gjallarhorn – one theory suggested Bungie took the exotic rocket launcher out of Xur's loot table – it appears we were mistaken. It's there and available.

For a full rundown of Xur’s items and prices see the list below:

  • An Insurmountable Skullfort (Titan Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
  • Achylophage Symbiote (Hunter Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
  • Light Beyond Nemesis (Warlock Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
  • Gjallarhorn (Rocket Launcher) – 17 Strange Coins
  • Exotic Gauntlet Engram - 23 Motes of Light
  • Exotic Shard – 7 Strange Coins

The one double-edged sword to this exciting situation is that Bungie has already announced a nerf for Gjallarhorn that is set to hit with Destiny Update 2.0. So far, Bungie has only said that they will be tweaking the damage done by the rocket launcher’s ‘Wolfpack Rounds’, which are mini tracking rockets that explode off the main blast, but that’s it. Now that Xur has sold Gjallarhorn, though, many will assume that the rocket launcher is in for a major nerf.

Even if that is true, at least all players (who can spare the Strange Coins) will know the power of Gjallarhorn, and understand why it has become an essential part of any Destiny arsenal. And yes, those who were lucky enough to get a Gjallarhorn through a drop will complain that their exotic is now not as special. So be it. Have fun Guardians!
