Things have slowed down considerably in the past few weeks for Destiny as fans continue to wait for news next month regarding the upcoming shooter sequel. Since the debut of that impressive CG trailer for Destiny 2, fans have let their imaginations run wild with ideas regarding the storyline, what to expect, and how new characters such as the mysterious Hawthorne fit in.

This past week saw a number of new and impressive feats accomplished in the world of Destiny as players as one player took it upon themselves to finish the first two parts of King’s Fall by themselves, while another fireteam of three broke the long standing Nightfall speedrun record. The team efficiently handled the Nexus Mind in an astonishing 2 minutes and 36 seconds.

With another reset finally here and Aksis once again in the gun sights of many, fans have already started discovering a few of the Raid’s secrets including a previously unobtainable XV2 Replicator Sparrow. With a new week of content upon us, how many more records will fall? Let’s take a closer look at all of the new content, bounties, and everything else in between for the week of April 18, 2017.

Featured Raid

For the past three weeks, Guardians have ended Crota, saved space and time from the likes of Atheon, and committed regicide again against Oryx and his taken. Week four sees the return of Aksis and his SIVA enhanced crew in the most recent raid, Wrath of the Machine.

Fans should already be pretty familiar with this one considering that it launched with last year’s expansion content, Rise of Iron. As expected, each and every challenge is now active upon loading up the featured raid this week but for those who need a refresher, here’s what to do:

  • Vosik Challenge – Teams must occupy all four Clean Rooms and close them using the bombs (not guns) that drop during the damage phase before Vosik is killed.
  • Aksis Challenge – The fireteam must supercharge during every Aksis teleport and players cannot miss a stun on Aksis at any point during the encounter.

As usual, players have only seven days to earn the raid specific loot as the next Destiny reset will showcase a new raid.

Weekly Vanguard Nightfall

For the Nightfall this week, players will be venturing back to Saturn to take on both Valus Mau’ual and Valus Tlu’urn, the Shield Brothers. As many may remember, this unique strike arrived alongside The Taken King expansion, and sought to break up the standard format of pre-expansion strikes within Destiny. At the time, The Shield Brothers strike founded many of the elements currently seen in newer content including dynamic enemy encounters, and unique boss encounters.

Starting off on the Dreadnaught, players will be fighting their way onto the downed Cabal ship in the Mausoleum. Things play out relatively normal, though the types of enemies that appear, whether that be Taken, Hive or Cabal enemies, will shift through each playthrough. The first real challenge comes about midway through when a Goliath Tank and a squadron of Cabal Phalanx appear. Players should aim for the tank’s boosters as not only does this deal critical damage, but it will reduce its mobility as well.

Destiny The Taken King Shield Brothers Strike Guide

After besting the tank, players will traverse a number of hallways, fighting off one of the three enemy types mentioned above. When entering the Narthex, the final encounter with the brothers begins. First up is the melee oriented Valus Mau’ual. Typically, Mau’ual hits hard, rushing his enemies and using a short boost to slam the ground causing considerable damage. Players should try to keep their distance and run when he gets close. After taking his life bar down about half way, he’ll retreat, sending in Cabal reinforcements until his brother, Valus Tlu’urn, arrives.

Tlu’urn is a distance fighter, using mortars on his back to call down damaging rocket strikes, though he isn’t nearly as agile as Mau’ual. Like his brother, he’ll retreat after taking significant damage, sending in more Cabal and triggering the final fight when both brothers appear together. Interestingly enough, when the first Cabal brother dies, his abilities will transfer to the other, giving him an added edge in combat. Once both brothers are down, the strike comes to an end. The active modifiers this week are:

  • Epic adds heavily shielded enemies that are more aggressive and appear in greater numbers.
  • Void Burn amplifies all void damage from any source.
  • Brawler significantly increases Guardian melee damage.
  • Ironclad adds additional shields to enemies.
  • Grounded amplifies damage done to players who are in the air.

SIVA Crisis Heroic Strike Playlist

Players looking for more ways to earn loot should stop by the SIVA Crisis Heroic Strike playlist. For the first strike completion in this playlist, players receive Treasure of Ages, which is essentially a grab bag of gear and items from all previous collections. In addition to 30 Legendary Marks, rare Skeleton Keys have a better chance at dropping in the SIVA Heroic Crisis playlist outside of finishing the Nightfall, which grants one automatically each week.

The active modifiers this week are:

  • Heroic buffs enemies, making them more aggressive and in greater numbers than normal.
  • Specialist enhances special weapon damage while slightly decreasing damage from primary and heavy weapons.
  • Airborne increases Guardian damage output while in the air.
  • Juggler prevents ammo from appearing for the currently equipped weapon.

Weekly Story Playlist

Introduced into the Age of Triumph update is the Weekly Story Playlist, which is a randomly picked story mission with enhanced difficulty thanks to an increased level difficulty and a recommended light level of 380. Just like the other featured playlists, the Weekly story offers players legendary marks and a Treasure of Ages reward box for the first time completion of the mission.

The playlist this week focuses on The Taken War, so players should expect to see story missions ripped from The Taken King expansion, or any other mission involving the Taken faction. The following modifiers are also active this week:

  • Heroic buffs enemies, making them more aggressive and in greater numbers than normal.
  • Specialist enhances special weapon damage while slightly decreasing damage from primary and heavy weapons.
  • Chaff disables the player radar completely.

Crucible Playlist

With Lady Efrideet and her Iron Banner all packed up and off the mountain, things have returned to normal in the Crucible. As players have come to expect after the Age of Triumph update, the playlists have once again rotated, offering a new selection to pick from.

Destiny Crucible

For the week of April 18, the featured weekly mode is Doubles, a smaller team based mode where two teams of two go head to head. As for the available modes, here’s the selection for this week:

  • Clash
  • Rift
  • Elimination
  • Skirmish
  • Rumble Supremacy

Iron Temple and Tower Bounties

This week on the mountain, Tyra Karn is offering her usual Iron Lord Token in exchange for doing good deeds around the Plaguelands. For finishing patrols and killing enemies, players can exchange 1 token for the following three Iron Lord Artifacts this week:

  • Memory of Silimar grants players with added resistance to damage-over-time attacks in the Crucible.
  • Memory of Timur gives a chance to convert minor enemies against its allies when hit with a melee strike.
  • Memory of Jolder removes the sprint cooldown penalty.

For players looking to get their hands dirty, Shiro-4 has a number of Iron Lord Bounties to complete as well in addition to his usual patrols quest. Here are his four bounties this week:

  • Shock It To Me can be completed once players kill 75 Fallen with Arc based damage.
  • Anti-Splicer tasks players with finishing 10 patrol missions in The Plaguelands. It’s worth pairing with The Plaguelander weekly quest to finish both at the same time.
  • Archon’s Forge: Servitors requires players to complete four Servitor encounters inside of Archon’s Forge.
  • Archon’s Forge: Shanks requires players to complete four Shank encounters inside of Archon’s Forge.

As usual, finishing these bounties are the only way to have a slight chance at starting the Thorn exotic quest line. It’s one of four that is needed to finish off the four exotic quests in the Rise of Iron record book.

Tower Content

Before heading out to fight the various alien races, head over to the Tower to speak to the Crucible handler, Lord Shaxx. His weekly ritual of offering two Crucible bounties is again ready with the new playlist options, focusing on Clash and Rift. Here’s how to complete each bounty this week:

  • Back To Basics finish seven clash matches, get 50 kills with a primary weapon, 25 assists, and 25 ability kills.
  • A Game of Rift requires players to finish seven rift matches, get 50 kills with a primary weapon, earn 25 assists, and stop the orb runner at least once.

The Titan Vanguard Commander Zavala also has updated strike elite bounties this week. Sunrise and Strike Elite are once again available, with Simply Perfect rounding out the trio. Here’s what players need to do this week:

  • Sunrise – Earn a Gold Tier Medal before time expires in the Nightfall Strike.
  • Simply Perfect – Earn 3 total Flawless Medals by finishing strikes without any teammate dying.
  • Strike Elite – Earn 9 total medals for finishing off Strike missions through a combination of Gold Tier,  Silver Tier, or Bronze Tier Medals.

For players not interested in the Nightfall, these weekly Strike and Crucible bounties are alternative ways to earn Nightfall tier rewards and loot that will help get closer to that maximum light level of 400. The Icebreaker exotic quest also has a small chance to be started by turning in the Sunrise bounty each week.

 Challenge of the Elders

Last up this week is Variks and his Challenge of the Elders arena. To start things off, head to The Reef and pick up an Elder’s Sigil from Variks, grab any additional bounties to get his rank up, and then prepare to fight three champions.

The modifiers for this week are:

  • Airborne increases Guardian damage output while in the air.
  • Berserk prevents enemies from flinching even after taking massive damage.
  • All Precision Kills award bonus points.

And that does it for this week. Enjoy, and as always, stay safe out there Guardians!
