Destiny: Year 3 Vex Mythoclast Drops from Vault of Glass, Necrochasm Gets New Quest

More information is coming out about Destiny's upcoming live event Age of Triumph, specifically in regards to how players will get their hands on the updated Vex Mythoclast and Necrochasm raid exotics. Tweeting back and forth with fans, Destiny sandbox designer Josh Hamrick revealed that the Vex Mythoclast will drop as usual from the Vault of Glass, while the Necrochasm will be earned through a new quest.

The Vex Mythoclast has always been a drop from Atheon on Heroic, so at this point players should expect the same for the new version dropping in the updated 390 Light version of Vault of Glass.

Conversely, Necrochasm involved a long chain of steps to earn in its original form. It started with killing one of the Blades of Crota enemies (plentiful in The Dark Below expansion but removed from all but one story mission afterwards) and getting a Husk of the Pit auto rifle to drop. After killing 500 Hive and acquiring an Embalming Orb from Eris, the Husk of the Pit could be upgraded to a Legendary version called the Eidolon Ally. Finally, players needed the Crux of Crota, a rare drop from beating Crota on Heroic that turned the Eidolon Ally into the Necrochasm.

But before players start dismantling their saved up Husk of the Pit auto rifles or Crux of Crota items, Hamrick hinted that those items still have a role to play in the new quest:

It sounds like the new quest will have many of the same requirements as the previous method of gaining the Necrochasm, but it will now fit into Destiny's new quest system, which was added with The Taken King expansion. So while fans may still need to grind for the exotic weapon, Hamrick says the quest will makes things "smoother."

Fans will find out exactly what that method will be next Tuesday, March 28, when the the Age of Triumph event goes live. Coincidentally, Crota's End will be the first of the refreshed raids available for players to conquer.

While the Necrochasm never had much of a time to shine during Destiny's lifespan, it could be a very viable weapon soon, receiving a general auto rifle buff as well as an improvement to its unique perk.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is available now on Xbox One and PS4.
