There’s no question that Destiny fans are primed and ready to dive into the new content that’s coming with the House of Wolves expansion. With new maps to fight on, new modes like Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris, new areas to explore, and new Strike missions to over come, House of Wolves is set to change the game in significant ways.
As Bungie continues to lay the groundwork for introducing such a huge amount of new content next week, the developer has unfortunately come across a major technical issue that just might throw a monkey wrench into their upcoming release schedule.
In a post on the official Destiny forums, community manager DeeJ informed fans that the anticipated 1.2.0 update had hit a technical issue that forced the development team to delay its release. No additional details were made on what the issue may have been, but it is known that the problem would have impacted a large majority of players.
“I’ve spoken with the finest minds at Bungie about Update 1.2.0 just moments ago. They’re working to correct a late-breaking technical issue that would have impacted the way the game launches for a large portion of you. Progress is being made.”
While Bungie is not committing to a new release date for the patch just yet, the developer did confirm that it would not launch today (Wednesday May 12th) and that the release schedule has been altered slightly. What this means exactly in terms of the upcoming patches or official expansion launch is anyone’s guess at the moment. Some fans have speculated that the House of Wolves expansion could be delayed as well due to this potentially major issue.
Update 1.2.0 is planning to be a big addition, as it brings a lot of new and radical changes to the game. Players will find numerous changes and improvements to the Crucible modes including making The Dark Below maps free to all players, increased reputation and mark gains, and other important tweaks and improvements.
News like this, while disappointing, isn’t terribly surprising considering how many updates and changes that will be affecting the game. Taking the time to get things right is incredibly important, as there have been a number of high profile titles that have launched with significant and game breaking issues. Mortal Kombat X, for example, released a PC update that was supposed to improve the title in a number of areas but also had the nasty side effect of erasing player saves. That’s a situation Bungie does not want to imitate.
Why do you think Destiny update 1.2 was delayed? Do you think this will affect the expansion’s release?
The House of Wolves expansion for Destiny launches on May 19 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. If it’s not delayed before then.
