Destiny: The Taken King Screenshots Highlight the Dreadnaught

Bungie's final Weekly Update for July gives Destiny fans a glimpse at screenshots of Oryx's ship the Dreadnaught from the game's upcoming expansion The Taken King.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt, Destiny fans are on pins and needles in anticipation for the open world FPS' upcoming expansion pack known as The Taken King. So far, Bungie has consistently kept dedicated players in the loop as to what most of the new DLC will contain, and has also promised a few surprises for Destiny along the way.

As a matter of fact, several days ago, the development team gave gamers a sneak peek at some of the forthcoming add-on's new weapon designs, and went on to assure fans there would be even more arsenal updates to come in the future. Plus, in addition to the recent reveal of freshly crafted guns, Destiny devotees were privy to the bounty quest changes being ameliorated with The Taken King DLC.

However, some of the most important aspects of the action-RPG's impending content extension yet to be discussed in-depth are its settings and destinations. Thankfully, with Bungie's Weekly Update dropping today, the game developer is now giving Guardians a look at screenshots of the Dreadnaught – Oryx's ship and solar system-invading fortress – for The Taken King. Moreover, Destiny's Senior Artist Andrew Hopps provides fans with a bit of background about the nefarious Hive-hosting spacecraft and some of the conceptual details that inspired its designs.

Regarding the Dreadnaught's origins and atmosphere, Hopps says:

"It was important to us that you would feel the scale as you moved through the hulls of the Dreadnaught, never sure about what to expect as large spaces condensed to claustrophobic tunnels before revealing entirely new areas of the ship. A sense of wonder about the unknown is what drove a lot of the spatial design."

Not only is the Dreadnaught significant because it's the central location for The Taken King's story campaign, but the ship will also be the main feature of The Taken War, which is a narrative set to branch off from the principal story. Not to mention, it will give players new places to explore. Furthermore, Oryx's behemoth Dreadnaught has a slew of different things to do such as new Bounties, Patrol Missions, Public Events, secret treasures, hidden bosses, and a whole lot more.

Bearing all of this in mind, Destiny players should be even more excited to get their hands on the soon-to-be-released The Taken King. Besides, with the game's Update 2.0 weapon balance patch improving the PvP and PvE experiences on top of the new information regarding the Dreadnaught, fans ought to be pumped to continue their adventures with the upcoming DLC. Plus, after Bungie's recent announcement regarding Guardians lasting up to 10 years for the title's evolution with character transference, Destiny should be alive and well for a long time.

Destiny is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, while the action-RPG's The Taken King expansion is set for release on September 15, 2015 for each of the aforementioned consoles.
