Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer gets more attention and love by the minute, pre-release. After its enticing trailer, covering the return of the Vault of Glass from Destiny, the addition of a new 6-player matchmade activity by the name of Override, and a whole new storyline involving the Vex, Ikora, and a past ally called Mithrax, Season of the Splicer has a lot more to give. Players will be able to obtain the exotic sidearm named Cryosthesia 77K, which seems to be a Kinetic gun with a unique kill clip perk that lets Guardians shoot a Stasis-infused blast.

That's not all, however, and it was recently confirmed by Bungie that three weapons from the first game will be returning, alongside many new ones. Among these weapons, there is the Hung Jury, once king in Destiny thanks to a combination of perks that made it insanely strong, returning in Destiny 2. Guardians didn't even have to grind for the weapon in Destiny, as they could straight-up purchase it from the Dead Orbit vendor with insane rolls in the form of Firefly (now called Dragonfly in Destiny 2, and arguably weaker than before), Triple Tap, and Hand-laid stock.

TWAB Reveals That Hung Jury Is Coming Back To Destiny 2

For those who don't know what this is all about, Firefly was a weapon trait from Destiny that made precision kills increase the reload speed of the weapon and caused the target to explode, dealing Solar damage in an AoE. This perk was later transferred to Destiny 2 and changed into something less powerful, called Dragonfly, meaning that it now does not increase the weapon's reload speed and deals damage in a smaller area.

Triple Tap was left untouched when it was included in Destiny 2, returning rounds to magazines when rapidly landing precision hits on target. These traits, combined with the overall reliability, range, and stability of Destiny's scout rifles, made Hung Jury one of the most powerful weapons players could possibly have.

Regardless of how popular and loved Hung Jury was in Destiny 1, players should keep in mind that Destiny 2 is a very different game. Destiny's meta was extremely different than that of Destiny 2, and Hung Jury is likely to be a 180 RPM scout rifle, which is not exactly good in Destiny 2. Overall, scout rifles are not really in a good state in the game's meta right now, with a few exceptions for very strong weapons, like the Trustee. 200 RPM is considered the bare minimum for scout rifles to be decent, and Hung Jury would be below that threshold. Plus, even if players managed to get its old god roll version, Dragonfly is not the same as before.

Yes, Hung Jury is coming back, but that doesn't mean it will have the same impact it had back when it was sovereign in Destiny's meta. This was something Bungie proved time and time again with some cherished Destiny weapons being reintroduced in Destiny 2. Bungie either changed the weapon slot or the signature perks in ways that didn't make them good enough in Destiny 2. All is not necessarily set in stone, and Hung Jury could still be a decent weapon. Maybe a combination of different perk rolls will still make the scout rifle awesome, especially considering that there is much more build variety in the game than there ever was in Destiny.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
