Although Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion is still a week away, Bungie wants to set player expectation for the future of its game throughout the entirety of Year 2. As a result, the developer has released its Roadmap for content release, both free add-ons and those tied to the new Annual Pass.

Some of the content drop names are being kept secret for now – likely because players have yet to actually experience Destiny 2: Forsaken’s story – but it appears Bungie is going for a cadence that rotates free seasonal updates with paid content additions. Most of these updates will include new weapons, crucible content, and gameplay tweaks, while the Annual Pass add-ons will feature larger story-based experiences and endgame activities.

One of the major highlights from the roadmap is the return of Heavy Machine Guns in December as part of the ‘Season of the Forge’ update. Most players were surprised to see that heavy machine guns were not included in the power ammo slot when Destiny 2 launched, but after strong outcry from fans it seemed only a matter of time before Bungie added the weapon class back in.

Festival of the Lost is also making a return after sitting out Year 1 but Bungie promises a twist on the Halloween event. Past iterations have been focused on the concept of collecting masks, so perhaps Bungie is going bigger than that this year.

And those who are on the fence about purchasing the Annual Pass for Destiny 2 can now see what exactly they are buying. Two raid lairs are planned for release over the course of Year 2 – one as part of December’s Black Armory DLC and one as part of Summer’s Penumbra DLC. There will also be new exotics added to the loot table as well as evolutions to The Dreaming City and Gambit over the course of the next 12 months.

Overall, it appears Bungie wants to make Destiny 2 players more aware of what’s coming to the game and give them a more consistent schedule of events. Some of these events will be familiar to fans, while others are new creations. Even in the month of September, players have a lot to look forward to.
