The release time of Destiny‘s next major expansion, Rise of Iron, has been revealed by the fine print on the game’s PlayStation Network information page.
Destiny: Rise of Iron is just weeks away, which will be the biggest content drop for Destiny since The Taken King. It will contain a new campaign, Crucible mode and maps, and a raid – as well as add Private Matches to the game. Destiny’s expansions in the past have launched at different times of the day — some at midnight of launch day, others at reset, and still some that went live at 10:00 a.m. Pacific of its release date.
So when will Rise of Iron be available to fans? According to the expansion’s informational page on PlayStation Network, Rise of Iron will launch at 2 a.m. Pacific time on September 20 — in other words, Destiny’s weekly reset time.
The info was spotted by HeyFitzy on Twitter who also correctly noted that the game’s page on PSN had previously listed the 10 a.m. Pacific launch time.
Could have sworn it said 10am PDT before. So much for getting sleep if true! pic.twitter.com/FmuBcJikPA— HeyFitzy (@HeyFitzy) August 30, 2016
A 10 a.m. launch was not peculiar because that is one of the regular times Bungie will make changes to Destiny, including maintenance and launching game updates. That is also the regular time Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner go live on their respective start dates.
The launch time for Rise of Iron has been a mystery up to this point because Destiny’s expansions have released at different times in the past. The Taken King launched last September at the same time, the weekly reset. But that expansion also included a physical disc edition of the game (which Rise of Iron does not) and was a bigger pack than the forthcoming offering, which made some think Rise of Iron might not get the same treatment when it came to release time. As for Destiny‘s other expansions, The Dark Below also launched at reset but House of Wolves went live at 10 a.m.
For now, at least, it appears that Rise of Iron will, in fact, be available at the weekly reset on September 20. Keep in mind that even though the PlayStation Network lists the launch time at 2 a.m. Pacific, Bungie could change its mind and move the launch time back eight hours to the 10 a.m. slot.
Rise of Iron will officially kick of Destiny’s Year Three, bringing a slew of new weapons and also a new wave-based arena mode called Archon’s Forge. With the release date coming up quickly, time is running out for current players to finish their Moments of Triumph for Year Two.
Destiny: Rise of Iron will launch September 20 on PS4 and Xbox One.
