Earlier today, Bungie gave Destiny fans a guided tour of the new social space, The Reef. During the livestream, players saw, among other things, the new NPCs that will populate The Reef. They also addressed rumors that the social space was already on the Destiny disc, but first let’s cover the new details.

As players expected, The Reef will serve as a HUB replacement for the House of Wolves DLC. Destiny Players will be able to buy new gear, collect and turn in bounties, and even access their vault directly from The Reef.

However, those who do choose to visit The Tower will find a few new items available, most notably in The Speaker’s inventory. Starting with the House of Wolves update, players will be able to use The Speaker to exchange all upgrade materials for either different upgrade materials or straight Glimmer. That means all those old Ascendant Materials players have lying around can be traded for Glimmer or even Radiant Materials.

But of course the main focus of the House of Wolves DLC tour was The Reef. As the Bungie livestream showed, The Reef will feature the return of Petra Venj, one of the Awoken Queen’s trusted advisors. This time around Petra will be responsible for handing out new Queen’s Wrath bounties and she will also sell some class and customization items depending on players’ ranks within the Queen’s Wrath. One of the big-ticket items that Petra has in her inventory is the Ceres Galliot, a new ship for House of Wolves.

Other highlights from the stream included quick looks at the vendors for the Prison of Elders mode and the Trials of Osiris Crucible event. Like the Queen’s Wrath and Iron Banner vendors, these NPCs will carry their own reputation gains, gear, and class items. Variks, the Prison of Elders’ vendor will sell the gear that all House of Wolves players will want, as it will be key to hitting the new level 34 cap. Some of the level 34 gear will drop straight from Prison of Elders, but other pieces can be bought directly from Variks.

The Trials of Osiris vendor, on the other hand, is a bit more mysterious, as Bungie promises that he will have some gear in his inventory. For now, however, the hooded figure only has a few class items, as well as some consumables that will help players earn reputation quicker.

Overall, The Reef flythrough was fairly straight forward, offering closer looks at the NPCs and brief teases of their inventory. The teases were brief because Bungie has two more livestreams planned, one focused on Prison of Elders and one on the Trials of Osiris. This particular tour was only meant to give players a closer look at the new social space and it certainly did that. Whether players will be intrigued by what they saw, however, is another question entirely.

Destiny – House of Wolves releases May 19, 2015 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
