Destiny Prison of Elders Preview Scheduled for Tomorrow

By | 1 year ago

Despite the fact that the upcoming Destiny expansion House of Wolves doesn’t have a new raid, many Destiny players are still excited for the other new content arriving with the DLC. One of those additions is a battle arena called Prison of Elders that will test teams of three as they work together to survive in the new cooperative game mode.

So far, Bungie has shared little about Prison of Elders, though that will change tomorrow. On Wednesday, May 6th at 11:00 am PST, Bungie Community Manager DeeJ will be live streaming gameplay from the new co-op battle arena. Bungie Lead Designer Matt Sammons and a community member known as ProfessorBroman will be joining him. Together, the three-man fireteam will work together to “fight, kill, and survive” the Prison of Elders.

According to information released today by Bungie about Destiny‘s new game mode, Guardians will “take on waves of increasingly difficult enemies to earn high-level legendary and exotic rewards.” No word yet on how many waves players will face or which weapons will be available as rewards, though we’re sure tomorrow’s live stream will shed a lot of light on these two subjects.

Based on that description and details from the above trailer, it looks like the new mode may be similar to other horde mode games like Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty Zombies, albeit with a few unique Destiny features that will test team communication and skill.

Destiny - Prison of Elders Preview

If the Prison of Elders is anything like Destiny‘s other game modes, we imagine it will be fairly linear with very few changes, if any, between playthroughs. Hopefully, it will at least include a Normal and Hard mode so players have a little variety in the gameplay.

We also expect it won’t be long before Destiny players invent and attempt their own impressive feats and challenges, just as many have done with Destiny‘s two raids. In fact, as long as the game mode allows it, we’re sure to see players attempt (and likely complete) the Prison of Elders solo before the House of Wolves expansion is even a week old.

We’re excited to see what the Prison of Elders battle arena has in store for Guardians and what we learn from tomorrow’ live stream.

Are you planning to tune into the Prison of Elders live stream? Do you think adding a battle arena is the right move for Destiny? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Destiny‘s House of Wolves expansion is set to release on May 19, 2015 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
