Video game crossovers are always a pleasure for fans, often even more so when the two games are vastly different. Usually, there is a lot of trepidation on the part of big studios to join forces with their competitors, so creative fans who can create scenarios in which different games come together are a godsend. One Destiny 2 fan has done an incredible job interpreting what it may look like if Mortal Kombat met Bungie's FPS, creating a perfect example of a Mortal Kombat style finisher in the game's PVP mode.

While Destiny 2 isn't known for its crossovers, Mortal Kombat has a history of bringing in characters from other franchises to bulk out its roster. Mortal Kombat 11 has seen the introduction of the Terminator, the Joker, Spawn, and most recently in Kombat Pack 2, Rambo. In fact, the addition of so many outside characters has made it difficult for fans to guess what will happen in the next Mortal Kombat project. On the other hand, while Destiny fans have been constantly hoping for crossover events for the game (usually with Bungie's original intergalactic shooter, Halo), no major events have happened.

For fans of Destiny 2's PVP mode, seeing a little bit of extra impact when landing a kill could be something that elevates player versus player combat. One Redditor has posted an incredible example of what Mortal Kombat's gory finishers could add to Destiny 2's PVP, with a slick edit of a shatterdive kill that ends in an x-ray close-up of their opponent's skull being fractured by the impact. The edit is incredibly smooth, even showing the shatterdive being embedded in the skull and protruding through the bottom of the enemy's jaw.

Some commenters pointed out that while having a skull-shattering finisher like this in Destiny 2 PVP would be cool, it would leave you wide open to attack during the x-ray cutscene. The Redditor responded, suggesting that the animation could be used simply for the final kill of the match, which would certainly make each round end with a bang. There were mentions of Sniper Elite's similar x-ray animations being more appropriate for Destiny 2, in light of the game's focus on gunplay. Given their impressive editing skills, bringing that idea to life may be something fans can look forward to in the future.

Overall there is certainly a jarring juxtaposition between the gory semi-realism of Mortal Kombat's x-ray finishes with the fantasy space aesthetic of Destiny 2. In a way, the juxtaposition is what makes this creative edit so glorious, and why fan-made interpretations of crossovers are always enjoyable to see. On the other hand, if this were to actually make it into Destiny 2, there would likely be some confusion for fans of both series. Having said that, one could argue that it's not that much stranger than Rambo fighting the Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
