Bungie has patented a new touchscreen technology that seemingly validates rumors of a mobile first-person shooter set in the Destiny universe. The patents from Bungie are all focused around a digital controller and modified way of communicating with other devices from a mobile screen. Though nothing is confirmed, a Destiny mobile game could be an interesting addition to the franchise for fans who want a new experience in the universe. Indeed, many who are speculating about a mobile Destiny IP have been stating that the title will be a standalone game.

Reports of a Destiny mobile game are recent and unconfirmed, but this new information about a Bungie patent is, at the very least, evidence that the studio is working on some sort of mobile title or application.

The patents that were filed by Bungie show some interesting digital controllers. The studio has created a system for auto-aiming that clearly suggests use in an FPS environment. That would make sense, especially if the statements about Bungie's mobile game focusing on PvP are true. Some other images from the patent also allude to a possible connection between mobile controls and other devices, which might mean that players can use mobile devices in conjunction with other screens. A few of Bungie's patents include an Infinite Drag and Swipe function for mobile, a Virtual Button Charging function, and a collection of State Based Action Buttons.

Bungie Digital Patent

Bungie has already made an appearance in mobile gaming with Destiny 2 content in Fortnite. The studio is also working on its next major expansion, Destiny 2: Lightfall, which will bring new mechanics, subclasses, and story content to the ever-growing Destiny universe. And, while a Destiny mobile game may be in its third year of development, fans shouldn't hope for mobile content any time soon.

The more prominent information about Bungie's flagship franchise, however, pertains to Destiny 2: Lightfall and The Final Shape. Lightfall will be working to continue the story of The Witness and the war with The Darkness, and The Final Shape will be the final expansion in the Light and Darkness Saga. And so, while it would be great for fans and potential new players to see a Destiny mobile game coming soon, it is much more likely that Bungie will continue to focus on the next major additions to Destiny 2 for the foreseeable future.
