Beyond Light, the hotly anticipated expansion to Destiny 2, has finally arrived, bringing a host of groundbreaking changes to Bungie's popular, space looter-shooter. Chief among them, Guardians can ascend to new heights of Power by earning fresh gear and weaponry.

Destiny 2 has implemented a new content vault system with Beyond Light, removing four major locations and numerous weapons from the game to make way for new content. Aside from new additions to the games' expanding arsenal, Beyond Light brings an entirely new character tree based on the glass-like Void energy, and new customization options to lend a familiar feeling to the original Destiny.

Guardians are off to the races to reach the game's new "soft cap" for gear, currently set at 1200 Power. The rush isn't ill-founded, either. Beyond Light's first raid, Deep Stone Crypt, launches on November 21, leaving players precious little time to prepare for the new content. Fortunately, there are several simple methods to boost Power Levels quick.

U/Schendziee on Reddit recommends players follow Guardian Siegedancers' strategy for farming. Chart a course to Hellmouth on the moon, and prioritize the following three activities to accrue blue drops fast:

  • Trove Guardian's Chest
  • Public Events
  • Powerful Nightmare

Pursue those loot sources, rinse, and repeat. Fortunately, there are several other easy methods to reach 1200 power if the grind starts to get tedious. Nightmare Lost Sectors in general seem to be full of legendary lucre, with several Reddit users specifically citing the Widow's Walk sector in the EDZ. Another relatively quick path to the soft cap is simply playing Crucible matches. This latter approach directly benefits from one of Beyond Light's changes to powerful reward sources.

Players who have already reached the soft cap will have more limited options for climbing higher, but they cannot afford to rest on their laurels for long. The first Raid Race requires teams to hit 1230 Power. After hitting the soft cap, Guardians will likely want to pursue weekly reward sources to inch toward the hard cap of 1250. After that, only pinnacle rewards will count toward reaching the 1260 pinnacle cap.

Guardians who have used less-than-honest methods to clear raid content in the past will want to take heed, as well—Bungie has changed its Raid Races to impede cheaters. These welcome new measures should ensure fairer play, and a satisfying challenge.

Players looking for an additional edge in Beyond Light may want to check some starting tips that will make their early questing experiences smoother and more lucrative before diving in. But there's also something to be said for going in blind, and enjoying the surprise.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One with forthcoming releases for next-gen consoles.
