Find out the unique modifiers for this week’s Challenge of the Elders in Destiny and how to finish an Elders’ Sigil scorecard for the week in just two runs.
Destiny fans have now seen every score modifier for the game’s Challenge of the Elders mode, but Bungie has set up sixteen unique combinations of Destiny‘s newest endgame activity. This week sees Grenade Kill Bonus back in the rotation, but players won’t have the advantage of Catapult like they did in week 2.
The unique modifiers this week are:
- Airborne – Players deal more damage while in the air.
- Exposure – Guardian shields are increased but do not replenish.
- Grenade Kill Bonus – Grenade kills are worth more points.
Players will be able to use the same general strategy as every week of Challenge of Elders to drive up the score: kill adds exclusively with grenades and then damage the boss until another wave of adds spawn in. Damage the boss whenever the point deduction timer goes into effect to stop the timer, and then kill the boss once its health is down and waves of adds have stopped.
Without Catapult active this week, players won’t have a steady stream of grenades, so it will be harder to kill adds only with grenades. So while waiting for grenades to charge, kill adds with other methods that give extra points—precision kills, melee, and supers. Supers will also drop orbs which further add to the score.
Challenge of the Elders Bosses
The first round features the return of Noru’usk, Servant of Oryx. This Taken Centurion will spawn lots of adds and throw out a ton of seeking orbs. Shoot the orbs away, clear the adds, and damage Noru’usk to clear the round.
The second round is in the Fallen room, and features the Taken version of the Pilot Servitor, last seen in week 1. This is a straightforward fight—clear the adds and shoot the Pilot Servitor in its center “eye” to damage it.
To finish off Challenge of the Elders this week, players will face Sylok, the Defiled in the Hive room.
Tips for High Scores
To maximize score, pick a build that will have a high grenade output. It goes without saying that the Discipline stat should be maxed out if possible. The newly buffed Voidwalker with Scatter Grenades, The Hunger, Embrace the Void, and the Nothing Manacles exotic gauntlets is the best option out there, especially without Catapult this week.
For Titans, run Sunbreaker with Simmering Flames, Thermite Grenades, and The Armementarium exotic chest piece for an extra grenade. Filling the Super meter (and leaving it full) grants faster charging grenades.
Hunters can choose Bladedancer with Arcbolt Grenades and equip the ATS/8 Tarentella chest piece, or Gunslinger with Tripmine Grenades, Scavenger, and the Young Ahamkara’s Spine gauntlets.
If done correctly, players should be able to hit the High Score in one run and the Cumulative Score in two. Players should be looking to hit 45,000+ on each run as a fireteam. Once done, go see Variks for new weapons and armor.
