This week, rumors surfaced that Bungie has started development on another instalment in the Destiny franchise, presumably titled Destiny 3. A serial leaker on the Destiny Reddit with a great track record, AnontheNine, has potentially let us in on some more interesting details about Destiny 3, especially regarding the rumored game's gameplay and story.

According to AnontheNine on Reddit, Bungie is going to be moving away from some of the core concepts of Destiny 2 in Destiny 3. Destiny 2 came under a lot of criticism at launch for its focus on making the series much more accessible to novice players. AnontheNine says that this will not be the case for Destiny 3, with the developer wanting to create a more hardcore and RPG focused experience. According to AnontheNine, gamers who play Destiny 3 only two hours a week will abandon the game because it will be too hardcore for them.

There is another interesting piece of information included in the Reddit post, which would have big implications for the lore of the Destiny franchise as a whole. The leaker claims that the game will allow Guardians to make use of the Darkness. Presumably, this will lead to new abilities/subclasses based around the concept of Darkness rather than the Light of the Traveler.

The leak also claims that Destiny 3 will feature emergent PvP in open world areas. It's unclear how exactly this will work but it sounds more in line with the PvP seen in an MMO than what Destiny 2 currently offers.

Of course, none of this information is confirmed but these details do makes sense. If one has been following the lore, the manipulation or choice to use Darkness does not seem too out of place. Furthermore, with Gambit mode showing the real power of PvPvE in Destiny, it does not seem strange for the game to begin focusing on that further in the future. Also, the game seems to be interested in making a more hardcore experience with the long, endgame at the moment.

Again, these are only rumors, and should be treated as such. Destiny 2 is still going strong with continuous DLC releases and events.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
