Destiny 2's hidden Zero Hour mission not only gives players a chance to unlock the Outbreak Perfected exotic pulse rifle, but it's also being heralded as one of the best missions in the game. Following in the footsteps of the Whisper mission from Year One, Zero Hour lets players unravel secrets and set out on a challenging journey to acquire a powerful weapon. However, missions like these take a lot of time and effort to put together, and Zero Hour is no exception. In a recent interview, some of the designers behind the mission gave some insight into the design process for Zero Hour, including how it took roughly seven months to create.

It's no surprise that Zero Hour took so long to complete, as it is densely packed with areas to explore. Rob Adams, the Creative Lead behind The Whisper and Zero Hour missions, noted that Whisper took four months to develop with a smaller team. Zero Hour, on the other hand, took seven months to craft.

Everything from solving the Fallen Transponder to fighting alongside Mithrax was tailored to make sure Zero Hour was as memorable as possible. Clearly the work paid off, as when the event went live Destiny 2 fans flooded social media to solve the mysteries within the walls of the Old Tower.

Zero Hour is filled with challenging jumping puzzles, a chaotic boss fight, and even some funny easter eggs. Much like the Homecoming mission at the start of Destiny 2, players can head over to the old Hangar and listen closely to one of the doors to hear the old jukebox still playing familiar tunes. There is even a hilarious Destiny purple ball easter egg players can find during the first enemy encounter. It's clear that this mission was built to give players a familiar taste of home at the Old Tower.

The Whisper and Zero Hour are what many fans consider to be some of the best missions in Destiny history due to their secretive nature and their powerful rewards. While Whisper of the Worm is getting a hard nerf, many players are currently scrambling to get Outbreak Perfected as it is incredibly powerful right now. Regardless, the rewards don't have to be powerful for players to experience some of the best content in Destiny 2 right now.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
