Bungie recently confirmed news about Destiny 2 that has been floating around the community regarding Dungeons not launching as part of the game's seasons in Year 5.

Up to this point, Dungeons such as Shattered Throne, Pit of Heresy, and Prophecy have either been free for all players or tied to the yearly expansion that they launched with. Dungeons, or any content for that matter, have never been standalone purchases, or bundled in as distinctly separate pieces of content from seasons and expansions.

Destiny 2's Lead Community Manager Chris Shannon (known to Destiny players as Cozmo23) recently took to Reddit to clarify that the two Dungeons coming to the game in Year 5 will not be included in any of the year's season passes. Instead, playing the Dungeons will require purchase of the Deluxe Edition of The Witch Queen, upgrading from the standard edition, or separate purchase closer to their release dates.

When Destiny 2: Forsaken launched in 2018, the standard edition was sold for $39.99, and there were options to buy two other packages. The Forsaken + Annual Pass Bundle was sold for $69.99 and included the base expansion as well as three seasonal content releases. The Forsaken Digital Deluxe Edition sold for $79.99 and included everything from the Annual pass Bundle as well as an ornament for an exotic weapon, a special emblem, and a special Ghost shell. That was a $10 dollar increase from the Annual Pass Bundle for what amounts to cosmetics. In The Witch Queen's case, the base expansion costs $39.99 with the Deluxe Edition priced at $79.99. The Deluxe Edition comes with access to the base experience of The Witch Queen, four seasons of content, an Exotic SMG, catalyst and ornament, an Exotic Sparrow, and the two aforementioned Dungeons.

The price points for Forsaken Digital Deluxe Pack and The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition are the exact same, yet the addition of two Dungeons divorced from the seasons they will release in is making people upset. Additionally, seasonal content in Destiny 2 has only gotten better since Forsaken, with the game finally arriving at a point where its storytelling over the year remains consistent.

It is unclear why Bungie did not include the Dungeons in its seasonal content, because, as it stands, the Destiny 2 Digital Deluxe Edition costs the same as the standard edition and each separately purchased season. There is no increase in revenue from the Deluxe Edition, unless Bungie decides to increase the price of seasons.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
