Bungie is scheduled to reveal the 'Next Chapter' of Destiny 2 on June 6, but a leak from this morning's Season of Opulence patch may have spoiled the announcement. Dataminers poring through the new patch have discovered a pre-purchase advertisement for an expansion named Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. The teaser image features concept art of a large fort and tower built the Moon's surface, as well as confirmation that Shadowkeep is planned to launch this fall.

According to the leaked image, the Shadowkeep expansion for Destiny 2 will have Guardians revisiting the lunar surface. "Become a slayer of nightmares," the teaser prompts, warning that "terrifying shadows" will be descending upon a forgotten moon. Assumedly, this means that the shadows forgot about the Moon and not Guardians, given players were fighting the Hive there not so long ago. The Shadowkeep itself is only described as a "mysterious enemy citadel."

While the Moon in the original Destiny featured a mix of both Hive and Forsaken enemies, it seems a new enemy awaits in Shadowkeep. While the short description in the leaked Shadowkeep teaser could imply that the Taken are the enemy at hand, given their shadowy nature, it seems likely Bungie would say so clearly if it was so. No, Shadowkeep seems to host a new enemy. "Become a slayer of nightmares," the teaser encourages. The pyramid-shaped ships hiding in the darkest corners of the universe may have arrived.

destiny 2 shadowkeep announcement leak

With today's leak, one of the largest Destiny 2 questions born from the game's community has been answered: Will Bungie continue to support Destiny 2? It seems that despite the split between publisher Activision and Bungie, Bungie remains dedicated to continuing supporting Destiny 2 going into its third year. There very well may be a Destiny 3 on the horizon, but it's not coming in 2019.

Take note that while this leak seems official, it hasn't been independently confirmed and thus should be approached with a touch of skepticism. It very much seems to be real, but can't be considered entirely so just yet. Tune into Bungie's Destiny 2 "Next Chapter" reveal stream on June 6 at 10:00 am PT for official confirmation and much more detail.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Shadowkeep expansion would launch in fall 2019.
