Ever since the release of the Beyond Light expansion in November of last year, Bungie has been transparent about the fact that more and more content will need to be vaulted in the future due to Destiny 2's file size issue. This is to make the game faster in terms of loading times and to make sure that issues with new releases and current content are minimized when big expansions come along, such as The Witch Queen in February of next year. Beyond Light saw the vaulting of many PvP maps, planets like Mars and Venus, and all related NPCs, quests, secret missions, and more.

With The Witch Queen, Destiny 2 players will have to say goodbye to the Tangled Shore and the Forsaken campaign, as well as all seasonal content from Year 4 - including missions like Harbinger and Presage. Now that the 30th Anniversary Pack has been released, players were already wondering what would happen to it further down the line and if its contents would stay for at least a full year before being vaulted. While there is no answer to how long things like Dares of Eternity and the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon will stay in the game, the Exotic item-supplier known as Xur holds a partial answer to players' questions.

Why Destiny 2's Dares of Eternity Is Likely to be Vaulted

Destiny 2 Dares Of Eternity Doors

The new Dares of Eternity 6-player activity allows gamers to obtain plenty of loot and cosmetic items to boot, and it comes packed with a rank-up system that's not too different from that of playlists like Strikes and the Crucible. At Rank 16, players can go talk to Xur to start the Forerunner catalyst quest, and when the friendly alien hands them an item, a text dialogue screen pops up - as customary while completing Destiny 2 quests. Here, Xur informs the players that at some point Starhorse will leave, and when that happens, Dares of Eternity will cease to exist.

According to Xur, this event will also deprive him of all the memories of his time as a game show host, and he begs players to retain keepsakes to remember those times by, for he will not be able to. Aside from being a heartbreaking moment in Destiny 2's narrative, it also provides Bungie with the perfect premise to vault Dares of Eternity in the future, while also not creating lore disruptions concerning Xur. As such, it becomes apparent that Bungie is indeed planning on vaulting Dares of Eternity at some point, or that, at the very least, this option will always be on the table as long as the developer needs to remove content from Destiny 2.

From a lore perspective, this could explain the fact that Xur doesn't have lines of dialogue regarding Dares of Eternity when players encounter him outside of Starhorse's treasure vault, as he is on his own at that time and doesn't remember things. It appears that Dares of Eternity is strongly tied to Starhorse's presence in the universe, meaning that whether the horse goes back to the Nine or some cataclysmic event occurs, the new 6-player activity will be removed from Destiny 2 as a result.

Considering that Bungie releases expansions on a yearly basis, it's not impossible that Shadowkeep content will go away in 2023, which means that the 30th Anniversary Pack could be staying for at least a couple of years. The fact that everything in Destiny 2 can be vaulted can be a bit heart-wrenching, as players will have to bid farewell to many more characters and content in the future, and Xur's Dares of Eternity are likely not staying for the long run. And yet, by the time this happens, it's very likely that most players will have acquired everything they wanted from either Dares of Eternity or Grasp of Avarice, making the loss more bearable.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
