When Xur first appeared in Destiny 2 it was somewhat of a disappointment to those that enjoyed searching for the exotic vendor every week. Instead of sending players on a hunt to all of the destinations in the game, Bungie simply told players exactly where Xur was hiding. It was a change that few were pleased with and luckily Bungie is making a change in Year 2.

In its weekly blog post, Bungie revealed that Destiny 2 Year 2 will return Xur to his hide-and-go-seek roots. Starting on the first Friday after Forsaken’s launch, Xur will appear on any of the destinations, but there will be no icon on the map. Moreover, Xur’s location will not coincide with the Flashpoint Milestone, meaning the Agent of the Nine could be anywhere.

At least for the first few weeks, the Destiny 2 community will be able to hunt down Xur and see what exotic armor and weapon he has for sale that week. Early on in Destiny, finding Xur and checking out his inventory was something players looked forward to, but eventually that excitement wore out. It became easy to acquire exotics and everyone knew Xur’s hiding spots. Now, finding Xur should feel like an Easter Egg hunt again.

Along with hiding Xur’s location from the director, Bungie will be changing the way his Fated Engram works moving forward. After Forsaken’s launch, the Fated Engram will only grant exotics from the Year 1 loot table. So players that still haven’t collected everything released over the last year have a chance to pick up whatever they are missing, but those hoping to grab some of the new, Year 2 exotics are out of luck.

Presumably, Bungie wants to bring back the excitement over earning an exotic in Destiny 2, instead of having players wait until Xur to add one more to the list. The Fated Engram was only introduced because Destiny 2 had a problem with duplicate exotics, but Bungie supposedly put in systems to help protect against that. There are some cool exotics coming with Forsaken, so Xur should draw plenty of attention on September 7th.

Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
