It's Friday, which means the exotic merchant Xur has returned to Destiny 2 for a limited time. Naturally, he's bringing with him four exotic pieces sometimes worth picking up and sometimes not. Thankfully, each item has randomized rolls introduced with Forsaken, which may add extra appeal to items that players already have.
While Xur continues to sell year one exotics for the time being, that trend could be changing towards the end of the year as The Black Armor approaches. The current rumor is that a new gear rarity tier called Black is going to be added as well as some popular Destiny 1 exotics like Icebreaker, Thunderlord, and The Last Word. Perhaps with an infusion of new gear and enough time given, some Destiny 2 year 2 exotics could enter Xur's weekly inventory.
Here's what to expect from Xur starting today, October 12, through the weekend.
Where is Xur?
For the first time since the launch of Forsaken, Xur has appeared within the Flashpoint location of Titan. It's a rare feat these days as with the big Sandbox update, Bungie unshackled Xur and no longer tied him to the Flashpoint milestone location. Even without his icon appearing on the Titan minimap, players can still find the exotic merchant hiding out in his familiar spot.
Fast travel to The Rig and start heading towards the open area in front of the large building that houses the Solarium zone. In a nearby building where the Fallen and Hive occasionally battle, Xur can be found hanging out.
Class Armor
This week, Xur has brought one exotic from each phase of year one, a vanilla exotic, one from Curse of Osiris, and one from Warmind.
Sanguine Alchemy - Warlock chest armor
A very strong exotic piece that is great for any Warlock class it's paired with. Its intrinsic perk Heightened Senses grants the player and any allies standing in a Rift to continue using the radar while aiming down sights. Not only that, it marks nearby powerful enemies and tracks them without line of sight. Basically, this item can be used effectively in PvP to spot enemy players before they know where you are.
Random perks:
- Mobility OR Recovery
- Unflinching Bow Aim, Unflinching Fusion Rifle Aim, Unflinching Sniper Aim
- Scout Rifle Reserves OR Special Ammo Finder
Gemini Jester - Hunter legs
Once a powerful exotic, the Gemini Jesters took a hit in popularity thanks in large part to the shotgun meta within the Crucible. Through the perk Misdirection, using dodge causes nearby enemies to become disoriented and temporarily removes their radar.
Random perks:
- Mobility OR Resilience
- Fusion Rifle Dexterity, Hand Cannon Dexterity, Bomber which reduces Grenade cooldown when using class ability. Something players should be doing a lot of with this exotic.
- Scout Rifle Scavenger OR Special Ammo Finder
Synthoceps - Titan gauntlets
These gauntlets basically turn the user into the Incredible Hulk through its intrinsic perk Biotic Enhancements. This increases the players melee lunge range while also improving melee and super damage when surrounded by enemies. It's an interesting exotic that fans still debate over. While some argue that they're no longer worth using due to the resurgence of shotguns in PvP, others agree that when paired with a specific subclass such as the Burning Maul, the reward outweighs the risk.
Regardless, Xur's Synthoceps have a pretty nice roll and should be considered for purchase by Titan players.
Random perks:
- Resilience OR Recovery
- Fusion Rifle Loader, Hand Cannon Loader, Impact Induction where causing melee damage reduces grenade cooldown.
- Shotgun Scavenger OR Heavy Ammo Finder
Exotic Weapon
Xur's exotic weapon of the week is the fun and unique shotgun, Tractor Cannon. The unique perk of this weapon is called Repulsor Force and as it sounds, it makes the gun emit a powerful blast that not only pushes enemies away, it also suppresses them and makes them vulnerable to incoming damage, especially void damage. Not only that, by damaging an enemy, the weapon gets a temporary increase to speed and handling.
Players have continued to rave about this weapon, especially within PvP style modes like Gambit and the Crucible. With a larger than normal hitbox, the ability to blast opponents off a stage, and also suppress them, it remains a popular choice.
Here's the complete rundown of Xur's entire stock for Oct 12:
- Synthoceps (Titan gauntlets) – 23 Legendary Shards
- Gemini Jester (Hunter legs) – 23 Legendary Shards
- Sanguine Alchemy (Warlock chest) – 23 Legendary Shards
