Last weekend with Trials of Osiris wasn't quite as successful as it was the first week. In a new Destiny 2 blog post, Bungie outlined the data which clearly showed a decrease in statistics across the board. The defining factor looks to have been the matchmaking changes made last weekend, creating a flawless pool for those who made it to the Lighthouse. Thankfully, this weekend appears to bring even more changes with it, hopefully again improving the experience to what fans were hoping for.

Even if Trials of Osiris hit a speed bump, the game itself is actually thriving. Earlier this week, Destiny 2 fans on Steam noticed that the game was currently the third most played game, pulling in a high of 124,764. Naturally, Bungie's live service title was lagging behind Counter Strike Global Offensive and Dota 2, two games that are always at the top of the charts. The large spike in numbers was likely tied to the weekly reset, which not only adds new content, but made the catalyst for Ager's Scepter available.

And now, the weekend is back which not only means the return of Trials of Osiris, but the weekend exotic gear merchant Xur has once again made his return to Destiny 2 with his newly expanded inventory. Follow this guide for his most current weekend location, news on his exotic cypher quest, as well as a review of all the exotic gear he's brought for the weekend of September 24, 2021.

Where is Xur?

This weekend, Xur can be found inside the Winding Cove of the European Dead Zone. Well, due to a bug, Bungie has instead moved Xur to the Tower.

Fast travel to the Winding Cove zone and immediately head towards the back where the Fallen typically patrol. Climb the cliffs back here to find Xur standing on a ledge not too far from a crashed ship. After loading into The Tower, head to the left down into the Hangar. Down the stairs, take another left and go beyond where the Dead Orbit faction used to be. Xur can be found on the metal platform overlooking the mountains.

Class Armor and Exotic Cypher

In Season of the Lost, Xur's role has expanded as the exotic merchant has weekly quests, exotics, and legendary gear. Not only are these quests required to purchase a second fated engram, but they're necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cypher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.

With Season 15, Xur is now selling even more gear outside of his usual content. In addition to his normal exotic gear, Xur now has Legendary Weapons and Armor for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards and Glimmer. Better yet, the stat rolls are pretty solid on the Black Armor gear for this week.

Exotic Armor

Apotheosis Veil - Warlock helmet

The Apotheosis Veil is a solid support exotic that isn't dependent on subclass. It comes with the exotic perk Insatiable, which immediately regenerates the player's health, melee, grenade, and rift energy when activating their super. Nearby allies also recharge class abilities faster as well.

It's likely not great in all situations, but it could come in handy when playing difficult activities or even in competitive PvP modes. It may not replace the standard go to exotics, but could be worth a look for some players. This week, the Warlock's exotic roll is pretty good, coming in at a 64 total.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +7
  • Resilience +3
  • Recovery +23
  • Discipline +13
  • Intellect +12
  • Strength +6

Shinobu's Vow - Hunter gauntlets

Last seen earlier this year, Shinobu's Vow is back in stock for hunters. New Tricks is the Intrinsic Perk on this armor, essentially giving Arcstriders an extra skip grenade (as long as that is selected as the grenade type). In addition, any damage done to enemies will return a bit of grenade energy.

Having an extra grenade is always a good thing regardless of the activity, though this one has very specific requirements and likely won't impact all Hunters. This can be a powerful tool for Arcstriders who have Skip grenades equipped, though they'd have to opt not to use the Raiden Flux exotic, which increases the damage and duration of the Arcstrider super. Whether that trade off is worth it is up to the player. There are certainly better options out there, but if used correctly, this item can ensure that skip grenade players always have something to throw. This week's roll also has an extremely high recovery, which could be something Hunters may want to pick up.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +7
  • Resilience +10
  • Recovery +17
  • Discipline +13
  • Intellect +16
  • Strength +2

Wormgod Caress - Titan gauntlet

Almost exactly a year to the day, Wormgod Caress is back on sale. Last year, it was infamously known to be much stronger than intended thanks to a damage output bug. The bug impacted the exotic perk on this gear known as Burning Fists which increases melee damage after each melee kill. The effect was always intended to be on a timer, allowing players to stack damage for a set time, but the bug actually let players retain the buff permanently.

Even with the glitch having been eradicated, Wormgod Caress may not be the best exotic gear out there for Titans. Still, under the right circumstances, it can be beneficial and is worth a look for those interested. This Titan exotic also comes in with the highest total stat roll at 66 with a very high recovery and discipline. Oddly enough, strength is only at 2, which kind of goes against what this exotic is all about.

Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +2
  • Resilience +11
  • Recovery +20
  • Discipline +23
  • Intellect +8
  • Strength +2

Exotic Weapon

Well, Merciless is back in stock for this week, making it the second time in a row. For those who missed it, it is a heavy weapon that has high damage output, especially against a single target. It's a solid choice regardless of the mode, though Nightfalls and strikes make it a powerful choice. It also helps that Season of the Lost is very fusion rifle friendly, so running this weapon may be more of a viable choice thanks to the Particle Deconstruction mod.

Destiny 2 Merciless

Conserve Momentum continually charges the weapon faster when players get non-lethal hits, with the cycle resetting once the final kill is achieved. Pair that with its other perk, Impetus, players gain increased damage for a short time after quickly reloading following a kill.

Additional perks:

  • Chambered Compensator
  • Extended Mag
  • Fitted Stock
