After weeks of teases and the realization that Season of the Chosen is now just a few days away from ending, Bungie finally gave Destiny 2 players the news they wanted. This week saw a brand new trailer and accompanying blog post detailing the Season of the Splicer. The Vex have plunged The Last City into perpetual night, threatening The Tower and those who live there. Thankfully, Mithrax, Kell of the House of Light, has reappeared to assist Guardians in overcoming the new Vex threat.

Along with an all new neon-themed season, players are getting all kinds of new content and activities including Fallen inspired armor, a 6 player matchmade activity called Override, and a weekly pinnacle missions known as Expunge. There's new exotic and legendary gear to also track down including the first ever Stasis infused pistol. Vault of Glass finally makes its grand return from the original Destiny, and players will also get to play around with a new transmog system called Armor Synthesis.

With so much on the horizon and the Guardian Games left to finish, players may also want to track down the exotic merchant Xur over the next few days. Follow this guide for his most current weekend location, news on his exotic cypher quest, as well as a review of what he's currently selling for the weekend of May 7, 2021 inside of Destiny 2.

Where is Xur?

For the next few days, players can find the exotic merchant back in his familiar spot at The Tower.

As usual, fast travel to the main Tower location and head left into the Hangar. Once there, take another left and move past the Dead Orbit section to find a metal staircase. Move up the stairs to find Xur on a platform overlooking the mountain range off in the distance.

Class Armor and Exotic Cypher

While Xur's role is essentially the same as it was prior to the Beyond Light expansion, the exotic merchant also has weekly quests that players can acquire to unlock an exotic cypher. Not only are these required to purchase a second fated engram, but they're necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the new kiosk. Players can earn a new cypher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.

Other than that, here are Xur's three gear pieces this weekend:

Vesper of Radius - Warlock chest armor

The formerly troublesome Vesper of Radius is in stock this weekend. It is a subclass neutral exotic that enhances the Warlock's Rift ability. Planetary Torrent releases an arc shockwave when the rift is first cast and recharges it faster if the player is surrounded by enemies. Even after being buffed last year, the item still isn't quite top tier, though some players have managed to get the most out of it with a few tricks.

The roll is actually pretty good this weekend with a really high total of 63. Even if this gear isn't a top tier Warlock exotic, it may still be worth checking out even after being disabled back in December 2020 due to an ongoing bug. A bit of an odd choice to be selling this week, but players may want to check it out in preparation of the upcoming hot fix.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +7
  • Resilience +10
  • Recovery +16
  • Discipline +7
  • Intellect +16
  • Strength +7

Gwisin Vest - Hunter chest armor

Spectral Blade Hunters should take note this week as the Gwisin Vest is again on sale. The main reason is due to its intrinsic perk called Roving Assassin. While the super is active, each spectral blade kill lets the player vanish and gain more super energy, making it last longer than normal.

Destiny-2-Nightstalker-Subclass

Considering the benefits of this exotic gear, it is one of the go to armor pieces for Nightstalker Spectral Blade hunters and is definitely worth owning. Plus, the roll on the armor this week is actually really solid, so it may be worth picking up for that alone.

Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +14
  • Resilience +12
  • Recovery +6
  • Discipline +6
  • Intellect +18
  • Strength +6

Mask of the Quiet One - Titan helmet

This sinister looking helmet is a subclass neutral item, meaning it can be equipped and used with any Titan subclass. It's unique perk is called Dreaded Visage with provides ability energy when the player is damaged. When they're critically damaged, kills regain maximum health.

In the current meta, this is a viable option for Titans, though it's worth noting that this item only restores the red bar health and not the shields like the One Eyed Mask. Getting into close range battles, this item will likely shine as it keeps players alive and filled with ability energy. It's a useful item but certainly not required at this point.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +15
  • Resilience +10
  • Recovery +7
  • Discipline +18
  • Intellect +11
  • Strength +2

Exotic Weapon

Skyburner's Oath is a classic Destiny 2 exotic, something introduced at launch with the base game and is based off of a Cabal's weapon. The defining feature of this weapon comes from its perk Slug Rifle which alters the firing rate of the weapon. Skyburner's Oath lobs explosive rounds that get stronger and faster when aiming down the sights. So instead of lobbing shots that track when hip firing, aiming down the sights actually turns the fired rounds into a faster, straighter, and more damaging explosive bullet. It also does more damage to Cabal enemies and rips through Phalanx Shields.

Destiny 2 Skyburner's Oath Scout Rifle

Ultimately, it can be a fun weapon to mess around with when fighting Cabal enemies, but it's not a weapon that is anywhere near the top of the meta and can be safely avoided. The other issue is that the Cabal-centric season is coming to a close, so it's usefulness is likely going to be diminished. In addition, this weapon is also easily outclassed by other Scout Rifles in the game. For those players who don't yet have it, it is worth picking up to check the item off of the collections, so using the Exotic Engram won't pull it in favor of something that the player doesn't yet have.

Additional perks:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Extended Mag
  • Short Action Stock

Here's the complete rundown of Xur's entire stock in Destiny 2 for May 7, 2021:
