It was an interesting week for Destiny 2 fans as things began on somewhat of a sour note. Veteran players began to grumble and express discontent over the current state of the game and whether or not this drip feed, limited-time seasonal structure could work long term. Part of the issue stemmed from the lack of challenge and end game goals that the current experience has.

Surprisingly, almost a day later during the weekly reset, a mysterious new quest appeared out of the blue with Osiris. The quest sent players back into a fully opened Corridors of Time which was fully stocked with weird symbols and puzzles to overcome. What may be more surprising is that this challenge was not overcome by the community in a day and continues to stump fans to this day. Naturally, many are hoping that the ultimate reward from this much effort will be worth the trouble.

While the community continues to decypher symbols for the time being, Destiny 2's exotic merchant Xur has returned once again with four exotic items up for purchase. Follow this guide for his location as well as a review of what he's currently selling for the weekend of January 17, 2020.

Where is Xur?

Players will need to head to Nessus this weekend as Xur is back on Calus' golden barge.

From the Director, head to Nessus and load into Watcher's Grave. Once loaded in, run forward until the zone opens up. The Golden Barge is floating nearby with Xur hanging out towards the back of the ship near the treasure chests.

Class Armor

Keep in mind that the Armor 2.0 update has caused Xur's items each week to mirror the rolls players get from pulling these items from their own Collections. As it stands, players should likely hold on to their shards if they already own the following items. Players can use the Fated Engram to pull something a little different if nothing in his inventory is appealing this week, including newer exotic items.

Here are Xur's three gear pieces this weekend:

Lunafaction Boots - Warlock boots

Warlocks can pick up the sought after Lunafaction Boots from Xur this week. They come with the unique perk Alchemical Etchings which provide a substantial impact to both rifts. All rifts now gain the added ability to increase weapon reload speeds while Empowering Rift makes weapons more effective over longer ranges.

For a long time, these exotics were one of the best options available for Well of Radience Warlocks and overcoming tough activities. Bungie felt they were too strong however and nerfed them alongside the launch of Shadowkeep. Still, they remain a very good option for Warlocks especially when taking part in pinnacle activities like the master level Nightfalls. For those who don't have them, pick them up for sure.

Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +6
  • Resilience +13
  • Recovery +7
  • Discipline +6
  • Intellect +6
  • Strength +10

Shinobu's Vow - Hunter boots

Arguably the weakest option this week is the Shinobu's Vow gauntlets for Hunters. New Tricks is the Intrinsic Perk on this armor, essentially giving Arcstriders an extra skip grenade (as long as that is selected as the grenade type). In addition, any damage done to enemies will return a bit of grenade energy.

destiny 2 arc subclass buffs

Having an extra grenade is always a good thing regardless of the activity, though this one has very specific requirements and likely won't impact all Hunters. This can be a powerful tool for Arcstriders who have Skip grenades equipped, though they'd have to opt not to use the Raiden Flux exotic, which increases the damage and duration of the Arcstrider super. Whether that trade off is worth it is up to the player. There are certainly better options out there, but if used correctly, this item can ensure that skip grenade players always have something to throw.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +11
  • Resilience +7
  • Recovery +6
  • Discipline +12
  • Intellect +2
  • Strength +6

Mask of the Quiet One - Titan helm

This sinister looking helmet is a subclass neutral item, meaning it can be equipped and used with any Titan subclass. It's unique perk is called Dreaded Visage with provides ability energy when the player is damaged. When they're critically damaged, kills regain maximum health.

Naturally, this is a very strong exotic item and one that should be added to any Titan rotation for those who don't already have it.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +6
  • Resilience +8
  • Recovery +10
  • Discipline +6
  • Intellect +6
  • Strength +12

Exotic Weapon

This weekend brings back the Colony grenade launcher. Insectoid Robot Grenades is its intrinsic perk which causes the weapon to fire grenades that are actually spider robots. Once fired, these devices chase enemy targets (even up/around walls) and explode at close range. As if that isn’t enough, when holstered, the gun refills its magazine as well.

destiny 2 the colony

Grenade launchers are still very popular and look to remain a strong option even after the secret Shadowkeep nerf they've received. The Colony is a strong option and makes encounters a bit easier thanks to its ability to find a target even when not aiming. While it’s likely a weapon that most players have at this point, The Colony is an easy recommendation for those who don’t. It'll also help complete many of the grenade launcher related quests as well like the Wendigo or Mountaintop.

Additional perks:

  • Linear Compensator
  • High-Velocity Rounds
  • Composite Stock

Here's the complete rundown of Xur's entire stock in Destiny 2 for January 17, 2020:

  • Lunafaction Boots (Warlock boots) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Shinobu's Vow (Hunter chest armor) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Mask of the Quiet One (Titan helmet) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • The Colony (Grenade Launcher) - 29 Legendary Shards
