For Destiny 2 players who never earned the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle or the Outbreak Perfected pulse rifle, now is the time to get them. Both of these exotics are earned through special exotic missions, The Whisper and Zero Hour, respectively. When these missions first debuted, they were some of the hardest content in the game, and except for the most hardcore of PvE players, required a full fireteam to get through and earn these top-tier exotics.

But, for some reason, right now in Destiny 2's Season of the Worthy, these missions are insanely easy and do not require players to be in a fireteam. That includes the Heroic versions that give and progress these weapons' catalysts. The platforming and puzzle sections of these missions have not gotten any easier, but something is causing the enemies in these missions to be extremely weak to players' weapons. Both red-bar enemies and major yellow-bar enemies go down in one shot and even the bosses can be completely destroyed in mere seconds.

There is no trick to it. Players do not need a specific loadout or weapon. Players can take literally any weapons they want into these missions and be successful. Of course, the better the weapon, the more effective it will be. Weapons like The Recluse, The Mountaintop, the Escalation Protocol shotgun, Riskrunner, Huckleberry, and other go-to PvE weapons are highly effective. It is recommended that players learn the platforming and puzzle routes before they begin their run considering both these missions are on a 20-minute timer. But players can rest assured that they will absolutely burn through the combat sections of these missions.

destiny 2 why whisper of the worm was nerfed

It is unknown what exactly is causing this to happen. Some players are saying it is simply the fact that these missions are set to a recommended Power level of 750 and players have now soared to 950 and above in Season of the Worthy, giving them a huge 200 Power advantage over these previously challenging missions. Others say that these missions are experiencing a unique bug that is making them so easy. It may actually be a combination of both of these effects working together.

While running The Whisper mission with a 955 character, upon dying the recommended Power level on the death screen was set at 0 not 750, which may indicate that it is not just a Power level advantage at work here but also a bug. With that in mind, it is likely that developer Bungie will fix this, although it is unknown how quickly Bungie will be able to act on it. Regardless, players who need either these exotics or just the catalyst from the Heroic mission should get that done as soon as possible before this is patched.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
