Season of Defiance is rapidly coming to a close in Destiny 2, and when it does, Season of the Deep will go live. This will be the 21st season of this looter-shooter MMO, and many players are eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Season of the Deep has been highly anticipated for quite some time now, thanks to an abundance of leaks that have been confirmed thus far. However, some players need clarification on when the Season starts. This Destiny 2 guide will help players learn when Season of the Deep will begin and understand what to expect from it.

When Does Season 21 Start?

For the short and sweet answer, Season of the Deep is set to go live on Tuesday, May 23, at 1 pm EDT. Assuming it's following the same timeline as last year, the Season will end sometime around the end of August or the beginning of September, which will be the start of Season 22 (title to be announced).

What To Expect In Season 21

Vanguard Deputy Commander Sloane

For the past couple of months, a variety of leaks have spread regarding information as to what Season of the Deep will consist of. One major pieces of information is the return of the destination, Titan, as the main area where Guardians will play throughout the Season. Titan has not been a playable location (aside from a couple of PvP maps) since the destination was "sunset" with the release of the Beyond Light DLC in late 2020.

This time around, it seems players will be investigating the whereabouts of the Hive Worm Gods, an enemy type that has been locked in mystery throughout the franchise's lifespan. On top of that, the main Vendor of the destination, Commander Sloane, will likely make her first return to the game since the location was sunset. While none of the leaks have been officially confirmed thus far, Sloane returning makes a lot of sense given that another sunset vendor, Asher Mir from Io, has made some quick cameos in the Vexcaliber Exotic mission.

Along with the information above, leaked images from the same source show popular weapons that were previously sunset. These include Randy's Throwing Knife; a powerful PvP Scout rifle; and the infamous Spare Rations Hand Cannon, another strong PvP Hand Cannon, which is set to return in Season 21. Thus far, only Randy's Throwing Knife has been confirmed to come back as a pinnacle PvP reward for competitive Crucible, but the fact that it was confirmed adds more fuel to the leaks being true.

Overall, Season of the Deep looks much more exciting than Season of Defiance, which came to a disappointing end this past week. Hopefully, it will have the same level of quality as Season of the Seraph, which was received as one of the best Seasons the game has seen in years.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
