With every new Season of Destiny 2, Bungie has gradually been adding Catalysts for Exotic weapons throughout the game. While they typically add Catalysts for new Exotics, they are also adding Catalysts for older Exotics. The amount of Catalysts added per Season will vary, but gradually more Catalysts for older Exotics are being brought in to provide enhancements to some weapons that may not be getting much use.

For Season of the Deep, the Exotic that got a Catalyst was Malfeasance. For Destiny 2 players interested in improving Malfeasance, this guide will cover what the Malfeasance Catalyst does along with how to obtain it.

How to Get Malfeasance

Destiny 2 Malfeasance

While many Exotic weapons are random drops, that is not the case for Malfeasance. In order ot get Malfeasance, players must complete the Exotic quest "Darkness in Light". This quest can be obtained by winning a Gambit match. This quest takes awhile, and has a few steps that may require players to bring a premade Fireteam for some of the more difficult steps.

One step in this quest will require players to complete a unique version of The Corrupted strike in the Dreaming City. This strike does not have matchmaking, so players will need to either solo or bring a Fireteam as mentioned above. At the end of the quest, players will have to invade in a Gambit match and kill the entire opposing team or (if they are lucky) have another player on their team kill the entire opposing team in one invasion.

How to Get the Malfeasance Catalyst

Once players have managed to get Malfeasance, if they didn't have it already, they will need to complete either Vanguard Ops, Crucible matches, or Gambit matches. Essentially, the Malfeasance Catalyst is a random drop from these playlists. Bear in mind, however, that it is random whether the Catalyst will drop or not. Some players will get lucky and have it drop after one activity, while others may not get it for weeks on end (if not months). The drop rate does not change. Even in a Nightfall or Grandmaster Nightfall, the chance of getting the Malfeasance Catalyst will remain the same.

What Does the Malfeasance Catalyst Do?

While some Catalysts added in the past did not do much for the Exotic, the Catalyst for Malfeasance adds some very helpful benefits to the weapon. First, the Catalyst grants Malfeasance an additional 20 points in Range. In addition, Malfeasance will also gain Vorpal Weapon as a trait. For those unfamiliar with Vorpal Weapon, this trait boosts weapon damage against bosses, vehicles, and enemy players that have their super active.

Of course, once players have the Catalyst they will not be able to apply it until they have gotten enough kills with Malfeasance. While it does take a little while to get the kills needed, it is worth it since Vorpal Weapon is a strong trait on Malfeasance.

Destiny 2 is available now on Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
