With Season of the Splicer, Destiny 2 players can now get the Exotic Catalyst for the Deathbringer Exotic Rocket Launcher. The catalyst is very easy to obtain as it has a very high drop rate in playlist activities and improves how quickly the launcher’s void orbs build up damage.

Deathbringer was first introduced to Destiny 2 as part of the Shadowkeep expansion in 2019, and while it was certainly unique and fun to use, it was not a must-have boss-destroying weapon. After Rocket Launchers received a hefty damage buff in Season of the Chosen, the launcher has become much more viable and is even more user-friendly with the catalyst equipped.

Exotic Catalysts are unlockable challenges for Exotic weapons in Destiny 2 that, once completed, will improve the weapon in some way by adding new perks, enhancing existing ones, or improving its stats. Completing and equipping an Exotic Catalyst also acts as a way of masterworking Exotic weapons so getting multikills will also generate Orbs of Power with a catalyst equipped.

What The Deathbringer Exotic Catalyst Does

Deathbringer’s main Exotic perk, "Dark Deliverance," makes the Rocket Launcher fire a Void orb that can be remotely detonated to release a shower of Void orbs that seek out enemies. The weapon’s other perk, "Dark Descent," causes the damage of these Void orbs to increase based on how far they travel before hitting an enemy. Players should aim high to let the orbs fall onto their targets and deal more damage.

Completing the Exotic Catalyst’s objective will unlock the "Dead Weight" perk, which increases how quickly Dark Descent reaches its maximum damage bonus. This means that players do not have to aim Deathbringer as high to maximize the damage of the Void orbs. Players can tell when the orbs deal maximum damage as the damage numbers will be yellow rather than white.

How To Obtain and Upgrade Deathbringer’s Exotic Catalyst

The Deathbringer catalyst is extremely easy to get and most Destiny 2 players that have played since the release of Season of the Splicer will likely already have it. The catalyst has a very high drop rate in any playlist activities – those are Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit. Players should pay attention to the text feed on the left of the screen or the loot feed on the right of the screen at the end of any activities to see if the catalyst dropped for them.

Once players have obtained the Deathbringer catalyst, they will need to get 400 kills with Deathbringer to complete the objective and unlock the catalyst’s perk. A lot of catalyst objectives require even more kills, such as the Skyburner’s Oath catalyst which requires 1,000 Cabal kills.

Players should slot in as many Rocket Launcher ammo-related armor mods that they can to speed up completing this objective. Guardians can equip Rocket Launcher Ammo Finder mods on their helmet for three energy points to make heavy ammo bricks more common. Through a new perk on the Season of the Splicer Seasonal Artifact, players can also equip Rocket Launcher Scavenger mods on their leg armor for only one energy point to increase the amount of ammo gained from picking up a heavy ammo brick. Both mod types are stackable, so it is worth trying to double up if possible, to make ammo for Deathbringer easy to find.

With a good mod selection equipped, players should then head into any PvE activity to get kills with Deathbringer quickly. Back-to-back Strikes or Lost Sectors are good methods for getting lots of kills quickly. Another possible method is to get to the Thrallway in the Shattered Throne as it provides players with infinitely spawning Shadow Thrall that can be farmed for the 400 kills, although it is difficult to get to, especially alone.

Destiny 2 players will see that they have completed the catalyst objective as it will pop up in both the loot and text feeds. Players then need to inspect their Deathbringer and slot the completed catalyst into the weapon to benefit from the perk and the masterwork orb generation.
