As the first expansion for Destiny 2 is now only a week away, the game finds itself in an odd place at the moment. Players and the community at large have become frustrated not only by the game's lack of end game material but also at Bungie for its increasing lack of communication and recent changes made to the XP system. The issue stems from the first Clarion Call event, which aimed to provide double experience for players in a fireteam with at least one clan member. Unfortunately, things didn't go quite as planned.

During the event, players discovered an XP cooldown mechanic, that would actually throttle the amount of XP gained for those who continued to play beyond a certain point. Players participating in multiple events found that by the third or fourth time through, the XP reward would be far less than it was the first time through. The backlash continued to grow which forced Bungie to confirm that it would be removing the system entirely. Unfortunately, it appears that by removing the XP throttling system, the amount of time to level up has now been doubled.

With the third and final stream scheduled for this week, Bungie has promised to not only show some of the major system changes it has planned but Luke Smith as confirmed that he'll be answering community questions as well. Until then, however, the weekly reset has returned with some new stuff to overcome before the Curse of Osiris descends. Here's everything Destiny 2 players need to know for the week of November 28, 2017.

Weekly Nightfall Strike

This week in the Nightfall, players will likely be feeling a bit of deja vu. Savathun's Song strike is once again the featured Nightfall as it was two weeks ago and oddly enough, it once again carries the same exact modifiers with it. Whether or not this was a mistake, random luck, or confirms the fact that Bungie has preset Nightfalls programmed to go is anyone's guess. With a missing fireteam trapped somewhere below the surface of Titan, Guardians will have to brave the Hive infested nests to find out what happened to them.

After reaching the Solarium, players will immediately need to survive multiple waves of enemies as Ghost works to remove wards blocking the door to the next room. Defeat the waves to next go up against an Ogre, so make sure to keep some space between the hulking creature as its rapid-fire energy shots can do massive damage very quickly.

Savathun's Handmaidens are the next major threat as they protect six void crystals near summoning circles. To progress, players need to destroy the void crystals while managing to avoid the likes of Wizards, Knights, and ogres. Defeating these major enemies drops the shield protecting each crystal, letting players fully damage them.

The boss is a massive shrieker, which kicks off the fight by teleporting around the area. With Hive flooding into the room, players should focus fire on the enemies, clearing them out and getting a bit of breathing room to fire on the boss. At 50% health, two Ogres enter the battle, and then at 25%, Savathun’s Song gains a light shield. Players will then need to find and destroy a nearby void crystal to drop the shield, finish off the boss and complete the mission.

The modifiers and challenges this week are:

  • Momentum: While standing still health and shield regeneration are disabled. Players need to sprint in order to trigger the regeneration process.
  • Timewarp: Anomalies: Destroy any detected anomalies during the mission to increase the Nightfall timer.

The player challenges for this week are:

  • Speed of Dark requires the fireteam to finish the Nightfall with at least 5 minutes remaining on the clock.
  • To earn Unbroken, the fireteam needs to complete the Nightfall with fewer than three deaths.
  • The Best Defense can be completed by shooting down 15 projectiles before defeating Savathun’s Song.

Flashpoint Location and Treasure Maps

This week, the Flashpoint order resets back to the European Dead Zone. As it is each week, players need to complete public events within the EDZ to fill the percentage meter. Triggering the Heroic event modifier fills the percentage a bit faster, getting players back to Cayde-6 to turn it in to get that weekly luminous planetary engram.

Before starting this milestone, however, players can also grab five weekly treasure chests from the Hunter Vanguard, which may potentially offer some interesting rewards. While players can certainly expect to see rare gear and weapons, other potential loot includes emblems, curios which can be sold for glimmer, and even a chance at an exotic engram. Keep in mind that opening all five chests in a row will diminish chances at loot due to Bungie's chest lockout timer, so players should mix up their activities on Earth.

Here are the five general stash locations this week on Io:

  • For the first chest, start in Trostland and immediately head to Maevic Square. Follow the path into the new zone and run to the left past the first open zone where the Fallen patrol. This chest can be found hiding within the broken remains of a city bus.
  • Head back to Trostland, either by running of warping, and then head to the Salt Mines at the back of the zone. The chest will be hard to miss as it's glowing on top of a platform straight ahead of the main path.
  • The third chest is fairly easy to find as it's basically right on top of the Gultch fast travel point. Upon loading in, immediately look over to the other side and the chest will be glowing right above the road. Pretty simple.
  • Cache four can be found in the path that connects The Gultch to The Sludge. Follow the road until you see a building hanging over the edge on the right side of the road. Climb up and follow the edge of the building until you get to a more open area where the chest can be found.
  • Finally, the last chest for this week rests within the Sunken Isles. After loading into the zone via the fast travel point, immediately hang a left and follow the long tunnel into the mountain until the new zone called The Tunnels is reached. Head to the left side of this wide area and the final chest can be found resting under one of the large fans built into the wall.

Leviathan Raid Encounter Order/Weekly Challenge

As it is each and every reset, the Leviathan Raid encounter order has once again changed. The long-term goal of this policy helps keep the mode fresh for players continually going in, but it also helps newer players get used to the Raid and gives them an opportunity to play each part even if struggling.

The active Gauntlet Challenge for this week is within the Royal Pools. For tips and tricks, make sure to check out our pools challenge guide.

And that's all for this week, Guardians. Enjoy!
