The showcase for The Witch Queen expansion in Destiny 2 was a wild ride for fans, and Bungie managed to build hype even though most of the reveal was uncovered by leaks over the past few weeks. Savathun is finally shown in her true form, and her overarching ploy in Destiny 2 has been revealed: to obtain the Traveler's Light for herself as well as the so-called Lucent Brood of the Hive. The showcase included a lot of information about what's to come starting February of next year, and while a lot of it is about the new Hive Guardians that Savathun uses as pawns, another interesting element is coming in the form of weapon crafting.

The ability to craft weapons in Destiny 2 is entirely new, and it was never teased, making the addition more exciting because of its branching implications. Weapon crafting will become available for players who want to try and get their hands on the new weapon archetype: the Glaive, a first-person melee weapon that features wild combos and projectiles, but also some form of defense. The Glaive will not be the only thing that players will get to craft with The Witch Queen, and Bungie said it has plans for more to come further down the line, likely in Season 17 and beyond.

Why Weapon Crafting in Destiny 2 is a Big Deal

Weapon crafting has always been something Destiny and Destiny 2 players discussed to some extent, debating how it could be introduced and what it could achieve. The details right now are still few because of how recent the announcement is, and news is likely to come in a month or two, likely in a TWAB post or with another teaser posted on social media. Regardless, players got a glimpse of what weapon crafting will be like in Destiny 2 thanks to the devs discussing how the Glaive is made from different components.

Another important detail comes from the brief video that was put together to show the location where players will presumably start their crafting sessions. The place seems like a sort of Black Armory-related forge or workbench, but what materials and components will be needed to craft is still unknown. Bungie also discussed how weapon crafting will include different types of guns, and a good starting point for this could be something like Biomutant's crafting, where weapons are created by putting different materials and parts together.

Many weapons from the past could return to Destiny 2, changed in shape and function but retaining their original identity thanks to the crafting system. More importantly though, Bungie will allow players to craft all of the new seasonal and Raid weapons in The Witch Queen, and that includes the guns found in the new location coming to Destiny 2 - Savathun's Throne World. What this means is that RNG could become less relevant when it comes to unlocking gear from all activities, and this could also be a game-changer for those who play some content exclusively to grind specific weapons.

Overall, there are many implications for what the weapon crafting system will be like in Destiny 2, especially because one big allure of the game is that players can collect a plethora of guns from many activities. As such, it's safe to assume that Destiny 2 will change forever once The Witch Queen drops in February 2022.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
