One of the newest and biggest features in Destiny 2 following the release of The Witch Queen expansion is weapon crafting. Players now have the power to make their own weapons, even though the choice of weapons is from a limited pool of craftable and seasonal (and even a few Exotic) weapons.

At the Enclave on Mars, players can use their crafting materials to complete any weapon Patterns they have unlocked by completing Deepsight Resonance progress on certain weapons. But how does it all work? For players who feel overwhelmed by crafting and are looking for a good strategy to remain frugal and efficient, here are a few beginner-friendly tips for weapon crafting in Destiny 2.

6 Keep And Complete All Deepsight Weapons

Players can now earn weapons with Deepsight Resonance. These weapons can drop as loot from any activity and are distinguished by their red border and exclamation mark. Using these weapons will either grant players materials once the red progress bar is complete or unlock patterns for certain weapons.

A lot of weapons will drop with Deepsight Resonance in them, especially during the campaign. However, players should never dismantle them. If players can't be bothered to complete the Deepsight Resonance weapons immediately, they can just stockpile these weapons in their vault for a rainy day for materials.

5 Don't Waste Materials

Speaking of materials, they are quite sparse in Destiny 2. Players will need a lot of crafting materials to make new weapons, let alone reshape already crafted weapons and add powerful, enhanced perks to them. It's just another reason why stockpiling all those Deepsight Resonance weapons is a good idea.

One thing to note is that Ascendant Alloy is the new major material equivalent to Ascendant Shards. It's used mainly in reshaping weapons, which can become costly when players add enhanced "yellow" perks on their weapons. Master Rahool sells one Ascendant Alloy per week for 400 Legendary Shards, so make sure to grab that one on a weekly basis. Some difficult activities such as Legendary Wellspring will also drop Ascendant Alloy.

4 Regularly Play The Wellspring Activity

The Wellspring six-man activity is the new major, grindy PvE activity players will be participating in Savathun's Throne World. The bosses and the type of activity rotate per reset, so players should keep an eye out for them since the weapons that drop from Wellspring are actually craftable weapons.

Some of these craftable weapons are also required to be unlocked for the Evidence Board quests at the Enclave, so it's just one more reason not to grind Wellspring for several rounds whenever possible. Bungie is currently looking at improving the drop rate of weapons from Wellspring, so players should be seeing an increased chance at earning weapons with Deepsight Resonance in them.

3 How To Unlock Weapon Patterns

The main reason why Wellspring is so important is weapon patterns. In order to gain access to all craftable weapons, players will need to first unlock Patterns for them. Some weapons are unlocked by default or after completing one Deepsight Resonance progress of the said weapon.

Others, like the Come To Pass Auto Rifle that drops from Wellspring, requires players to complete to Deepsight Resonance progress of it, which requires a lot of work and good luck. Players can see which weapons actually have accessible Patterns by hovering over a weapon with Deepsight Resonance. Though older weapons will drop with the red outline, only new craftable and seasonal weapons are available as Patterns.

Patterns and their unlocking progress can be checked in the Triumphs tab, in Patterns and Catalysts.

2 Some Exotic Weapons & Catalysts Can Only Be Crafted

Destiny 2 Osteo Striga Crafting

There are some Exotic weapons that are also unique to crafting, and their Catalysts are also only available after players level up these weapons to a specific level. The Osteo Striga SMG is a perfect example of that. It can be crafted after the campaign is done but in order to get the Catalyst players need to level up the weapon by using it diligently.

The same also goes for Exotic glaives, though to get access to them at the Enclave, players first need to unlock several other weapon Patterns and craft them, which can take quite a bit of time.

1 Level Up Crafted Weapons For Enhanced Perks

Once players have crafted a weapon, it's time to level them up. The idea is that leveling them up unlocks alternate perk options and enhanced perks. These are marked in yellow in the crafting screen. Once players have leveled up their crafted weapon, they can return to the Enclave and reshape their weapon by changing some of its perks to better ones.

This means that even though players will initially be forced to craft an underwhelming weapon, they'll get to come back and upgrade the said weapon with better perks after using it. So, never toss away a crafted weapon because the perks are bad, it's just a matter of leveling the weapon.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
