With The Witch Queen expansion only weeks away at this point, Destiny 2 fans have had a constant stream of new information regarding the upcoming changes and content. It appears the momentum that Bungie has built over the past year through its seasonal storytelling and new content has struck a chord with fans as over one million people have already pre-ordered The Witch Queen. Earlier today, a new trailer showed off a number of new toys players will get their hands on, no doubt providing a bit more excitement for the community.

The trailer showcased some of the new exotic gear coming inside of the Witch Queen expansion, including the Grand Overture slug launcher that fires full auto-missiles. A new grenade launcher named Parasite launches hive worms, while an SMG called Osteo Striga fires swarming projectiles that cause a toxic burst of damage on impact. As unique as these weapons are, the trailer also shed light on the upcoming and highly requested crafting feature. Now, Bungie has opened up a bit more on just what players can expect.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Destiny 2 creative director James Tsai ran through the process of crafting weapons. Taking place on Mars, a previously vaulted destination, players will be using a relic in order to begin their crafting. The process starts with a pattern, used to create the initial form of the desired weapon. By using it in combat, the weapon gains new levels which allow for further tweaking to things like intrinsic properties, magazine attributes, and much more. Over time, players will also be able to modify perks and core traits.

In addition to combat, players will need to gather specific resources through specific sources or by dismantling other weapons as well. The Witch Queen also features optional consumable mementos, which unlock cosmetic changes to the crafted weapon. Ultimately, players will need to visit The Relic on Mars to tweak their weapon, a space crafted by Bungie to make the act feel important and personal for players.

The reason we have this relic is that we wanted this to feel like a personal, sacred, and emotionally intimate moment for you and give it some importance in the universe.

Crafting looks to play a major part, not only in the coming expansion, but for the future of Destiny 2. While also providing another way for players to express themselves, the crafting mechanic will be important for forging the Witch Queen's newest weapon type: the Glaive. While there's still a lot fans don't know, the Glaive is a new energy weapon that is a cross between a melee and ranged weapon. Needless to say, it should prove to be quite formidable and versatile for players.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
