April 24th might be when Bungie plans to reveal the new content for its upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, Warmind, but that hasn’t stopped retailers from letting a few details slip early. An alleged description from GameStop has potentially given Destiny 2 players their first hints regarding the story of Warmind as well as what new cooperative experiences it will offer.

Before talking about the listing it’s important to point out that nothing has been confirmed by Bungie and this is the time that fans like to create convincing (or unconvincing) fakes. We’re going to examine the details as if they are real but treat everything below with a huge grain of salt.

According to the GameStop listing, Warmind will see players teaming up with the Warmind Rasputin and Ana Bray to stop the rogue Warmind, Charlemagne. Originally encountered on Io, Charlemagne is amassing an army of Exos to “march upon the Traveler.”

By and large, the story details align with previous evidence found within the game. Most figured that Ana Bray would factor into one of the DLC add-ons after finding a secret room in the Tower. And the Warmind on Io always seemed like a key component for DLC 2 if only because the logo for the add-on was a Warmind symbol. Some thought it might hint at Rasputin, while others presumed Charlemagne. Could be this listing is playing on those presumptions to make a convincing fake, or it could be that both camps were right.

As previously guessed, Warmind will send players to Site 8 on Mars where they will encounter a new enemy type called Crypt Exos. Mars featured heavily in Destiny 1, so revisiting the planet could either be another sign of a fake or the first opportunity to directly compare the sequel to its predecessor.

gamestop warmind description

Perhaps the biggest reveal coming out of the GameStop update is something called the Deep Stone Crypt. According to the listing, this cooperative activity will have players fighting increasingly difficult bosses, which makes it sound like Destiny 2’s version of Prison of Elders.

For a while now Destiny players have been asking Bungie to design a type of horde mode that truly challenges their skill, so perhaps Deep Stone Crypt is that never-ending, repeatable experience. However, a completely new gameplay experience is a substantial addition for the game, and one that is hard to believe would be included with a small DLC.

Real or not, all should become clear on April 24th, when Bungie will host a livestream focused exclusively on Destiny 2’s Warmind DLC. If the stream is anything like past reveal streams then players can expect live gameplay, a look at some new gear, and a new story trailer. Then, on May 8th, Destiny 2 players will be able to go hands-on with Warmind and see what the new content is all about.

Destiny 2: Warmind releases May 8, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
