Destiny 2’s Warmind expansion launches in a little over a week, and that means more information about Warmind has started coming from Bungie. Today, Bungie took to Twitch to show off the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, showing off some new features, gear, and changes that accompany the expansion.

Warmind takes players to the frozen ice caps of Mars to explore the story of Ana Bray and the infamous warmind, Rasputin. The livestream showed off the new endgame activity Escalation Protocol, which is a horde mode activity that can be played on Mars. The activity takes place in the public space and can be joined in-progress, just like Court of Oryx from Destiny. Players must fight waves of Hive that emerged from the ice caps of Mars and face off against bosses that rotate each week. The activity will feature exclusive rewards that can only be found in the Escalation Protocol activity.

Crucible is also receiving an overhaul with the May update, which goes live alongside Warmind on May 8. Players will be able to earn Crucible rank for playing either the Quick Play or Competitive playlists and earn new exclusive rewards available only to high-ranked players.

In a press release, Bungie also announced some other upcoming features for Warmind, including strikes, new crucible maps, and the new raid layer, dubbed the Spire of Stars. Bungie’s raid design team acknowledged that players want more raid bosses to face off against, so we shall see if Spire of Stars will feature more in-depth combat encounters.

New exotic buffs were also discussed during the stream, including changes to Riskrunner and Hard Light. Riskrunner will now activate its intrinsic perk even when the weapon is stowed when arc damage is taken, though the increased arc resistance will only be available when the weapon is out. Hard Light is taking a page out of Borealis’ book, and players can now switch the weapon’s elements without going into the menu. The ricochet rounds will also deal double damage, a huge buff for the weapon’s intrinsic perk.

The livestream showed off some interesting elements for both PvE and PvP activities in Warmind. Bungie developers even noted that they took the feedback from the community summit and made Escalation Protocol even harder, so hopefully the new game mode will keep players engaged while they grind to max power level.
